Angela Bassett recently confirmed that the characters of Ramonda and Shuri survived the conclusion of Avengers: Infinity War. The latest addition to the Avengers franchise saw many characters erased from existence after Thanos acquired all the Infinity Stones and snapped his fingers. However, the fates of many others were left unknown as the credits rolled.

Since Infinity War's premiere, the filmmakers have spent some time filling in the blanks, letting fans know who perished and who survived. For instance, the likes of Betty Ross and Lady Sif were among those dusted, while Peter Parker's beloved Aunt May was spared. It was also confirmed Thor: Ragnarok standout Valkyrie survived as well. After Black Panther won audiences over to the tune of $1.3 billion worldwide, many have wondered what became of Wakanda post-snap, and now we know some key individuals are still around.

In an interview with Screen Rant to promote Mission: Impossible - Fallout, Bassett (who portrays Ramonda, Queen Mother of Wakanda in Black Panther), was asked if she believed her character had been included in the group that disappeared with the Thanos snap. She confirmed she does not believe Ramonda is among the casualties, and further went on to announce the survival of Shuri as well:

“No. Neither did my daughter. Shuri, she's a bright girl there in Wakanda. So…’

Shuri shows her technology to T'Challa in Black Panther

Ramonda first made her debut appearance alongside her daughter Shuri in Black Panther as they welcomed T’Challa back to Wakanda in preparation for his coronation. Despite being a largely important member of the Wakandan society, Ramonda was not featured in Infinity War, even after it was heavily speculated. Shuri, who is portrayed by Letitia Wright, did make an appearance in the latest film, acting as a valuable asset with her attempt to disconnect the Mind Stone from Vision, though she was unsuccessful. Since it was unclear whether these two survived the snap, fans have been speculating about their future appearances. With these latest comments from Bassett in mind, it can be assumed viewers will see the characters again sooner rather than later.

The confirmation of Shuri’s survival has worked to spark even more discussion around the potential progression for her character. Since it’s been confirmed that T’Challa was exterminated at the end of Avengers: Infinity War, many fans believe that Shuri may go on to take on the Black Panther mantle in the place of her brother. Though, like always, viewers have been reminded to “expect the unexpected” when it comes to the future of the MCU.
