The runtime for Avengers: Infinity War continues to be a mystery. Ever since Marvel Studios embarked on the process of making Infinity War, its been one of their most secretive films. Considering the magnitude of bringing all these characters together to fight Thanos, the effort is understandable. They even made the decision to move the film's release up domestically so that Infinity War hits theaters the same day worldwide. The Russo brothers even wrote a letter pleading for fans to not spoil anything.
With so much mystery surrounding the plot (one that the Russos teased in that letter that only a few people actually know), Infinity War is sure to feature some surprises. One of the surprising elements for viewers though may just be how long they're actually in their seats.
The runtime of Avengers: Infinity War has been surprisingly secretive. Early rumors pointed to a 2 hour and 30 minute runtime, but that figure was just a placeholder. Last month though, AMC and Fandango - among a few other theater chains and ticket sellers - listed a 2 hour and 36 minute runtime, but Disney confirmed to us that the final cut wasn't even locked at the time. Some of the websites removed the incorrect runtime.
Now, there's another twist. A new 2 hour and 29 minute runtime has surfaced from IFCO and BBFC. This initially looked to be film's official runtime, but that may not be the case either. Based on comments by the Film Censorship Board shared by Kompas, the FCB has altered the cut of Infinity War for Indonesia and the Indonesian cut is seven minutes shorter than what the actual cut of the movie is. Kompas says that the official runtime is 156 minutes (or the reported 2 hour and 36 minute runtime). We followed up with Disney again who said that does match what they have now, despite denying that time weeks earlier.
It's rather odd that Disney has yet to confirm what Infinity War's runtime will be, officially, and that different film boards have slightly different times still. Until Disney publicly confirms the runtime, it remains unclear if the runtime is 156 minutes, 149 minutes or something else. Whatever the case may be, it's clear that Infinity War is going to be one of the MCU's longest movies as suggested by directors Anthony and Joe Russo who did previously state that they were looking at a runtime around two and a half hours.
Even though this is all unclear, it will be solved soon. Infinity War hits theaters in just two weeks from now, and the first screenings happen in one week. By that time, an officially official runtime will surely be available. Screen Rant has reached out to Disney for confirmation on Avengers: Infinity War's runtime and will update accordingly.
