A new TV spot has been released by Marvel for the forthcoming Avengers: Infinity War, showcasing the decade-long legacy of the studio's cinematic universe. Due for release later this month, Infinity War is the culmination of a franchise that began back in 2008 with Iron Man. Since then, the Marvel Cinematic Universe has achieved unprecedented commercial and critical success, with each movie slowly building up to the creation of the Avengers and the arrival of Thanos in his quest to obtain the Infinity Stones. Thanos' story will finally come to the fore in Infinity War and heroes from the entire MCU will come together in an attempt to prevent his mission to wipe out half of the universe.
Due to the popularity of the Marvel movies and the amount of time and effort put into building towards this point, Infinity War was already one of the most highly anticipated releases in modern cinema even before any footage had been unveiled, but the release of several trailers and TV spots have only intensified this hype. The footage released thus far has already showcased a massive battle in Wakanda, various tantalizing team-ups and a scene that appears to show Thanos ripping Vision's Infinity Stone out. Hawkeye, meanwhile, has been conspicuous by his absence.
A new short TV spot has now been released by Marvel comprising of footage from both Infinity War and previous entries in the MCU canon. Beginning with a glorious shot of Thanos and his Black Order, as well as a mostly empty Gauntlet, the clip goes on to highlight each main hero set to feature in the upcoming battle from their respective solo movies. The MCU births of Captain America, Spider-Man, Black Widow, Iron Man, Doctor Strange and many more are revisited in rapid succession, with each actor taking a line from the famous Avengers speech delivered by Nick Fury in the first Avengers movie.
Although this spot is primarily comprised of footage many Marvel fans would have seen before, it certainly succeeds in getting viewers both misty-eyed and pumped-up about the release of Infinity War. The clip is a fantastic reminder of both how far the franchise has come and the various characters Marvel Studios have spent up to ten years developing and almost feels like a 'Greatest Hits' compilation of the MCU, full of standout moments from the last decade that have all been leading to this very point, whether fans knew it at the time or not.
Of course, the TV spot is not only a celebration of the MCU's legacy but also a bittersweet reminder that it's highly likely not all of these characters are going to make it to the end credits. The prime suspects for the chop according to current fan opinion seem to be Cap, Stark or Hawkeye but if the legacy of the franchise has taught anything, it's to expect the unexpected in Avengers: Infinity War.
