A new fan-made poster for Avengers: Infinity War takes its cues from the design of the official Justice League poster. Both superhero tentpoles are coming in hot with a lot of anticipation surrounding them. The DC Extended Universe film marks the live-action, big screen, debut of the Justice League, whereas Infinity War is the culmination of the MCU after ten years of movie releases.
The two superhero movies also had a sizable presence at San Diego Comic-Con over the weekend. Whereas the Infinity War sizzle reel footage shown at SDCC won’t be released online for a while now, the SDCC Justice League trailer is now online – with the movie further buoyed at the event by a Hall H panel attended by the main cast (excluding Henry Cavill). The latter’s SDCC poster was inspired by the classic Justice League artwork by Alex Ross from Justice Vol. 1. Now the Avengers have their own poster in that same vein, thanks to a fan.
Pictured on the fan-made Infinity War poster (see below) are Hulk (Mark Ruffalo), Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.), Captain America (Chris Evans), Thor (Chris Hemsworth) and Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch). The poster also tweaks the Justice League poster tagline (“You Can’t Save The World Alone”) to “You Can’t Fight Thanos Alone”, with the characters’ insignia also substituted. Justice League arrives in theaters this November – the same month that Marvel’s Thor: Ragnarok hits theaters. In addition to bringing together DC’S biggest heroes, the film will feature the return of Superman after his apparent death in Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice. Justice League is currently in the midst of reshoots that are being overseen by Avengers and Avengers: Age of Ultron director Joss Whedon, after director Zack Snyder had to bow out due to a personal tragedy. Infinity War, on the other hand, is still almost a year away and only just finished production, under the direction of the Russo Brothers (Joe and Anthony).
Despite the heated debates between fans of Marvel and DC Comics about which is better in terms of almost everything, there seems to be nothing more than just a friendly and healthy competition between the companies. At SDCC 2017, Marvel Studios head honcho Kevin Feige and DC Entertainment President Geoff Johns even reminisced about their days as co-workers as Richard Donner’s interns – praising one another for a job well done in their respective turfs. Even the actors from both camps share some superhero love with each other – transcending brand and film studio fences. In the end, with both mega-franchises performing at their very bests, the fans are the ultimate benefactors in this golden age of comic book movies.
