The Stark-designed Iron Spider suit from the end of Spider-Man: Homecoming has finally been revealed in all its glory. With the reveal ahead of Captain America: Civil War that Spider-Man would be making his MCU debut in the film, a lot of focus was put on his new suit. While we didn't see much of Spidey in the movie, we did get a good idea of his new uniform designed by Stark and saw a glimpse of his homemade outfit. Luckily, the release of Homecoming last month spent even more time with Peter in both versions of his suit. But once again, fans were given a surprise when the end of the movie revealed a third suit—this time based off of the Iron Spider costume from the comics.
During the comic book version of Civil War, Peter joins Tony's team and is gifted with not just a new uniform, but a Spidey-themed Iron Man suit. Done in red and gold, the Iron Spider suit features all sorts of bells and whistles, including three extra appendages. It's been rumored to appear in the MCU for years, but the twist at the end of Homecoming finally gave us the movie version of the fan-favorite costume. We've known since the reveal of the Avengers: Infinity War teaser at D23 that Spidey would be putting on the suit to battle Thanos, but now we have our best look yet at the costume.
Art of VFX spoke with Dominik Zimmerle of Trixter about his and his company's work on Spider-Man: Homecoming. In the interview, he goes into all sorts of technical details about the effects for Homecoming. Even more exciting, however, is the site's reveal of a hi-res still of the new Iron Spider suit.
Zimmerle and Trixter have worked on both previous Avengers films as Iron Man 3 and Ant-Man, so they're well-versed in making Marvel movies. Though the initial Iron Spider suit was made by Framestore, Trixter took over and finished it. Thanks to the image reveal, we can finally get a good look at the costume without having to go back to the theaters repeatedly. Though it's still unclear if the costume is equipped with spider arms, it's a nice blend of Peter's Mark I suit and the Iron Spider uniform from the comics.
Thanks to the Infinity War teaser and the SDCC poster, we know Peter will eventually change his mind about wearing the suit. Given the scale of the battle in Infinity War, it's no surprise that Spidey is anxious for an upgrade. Of course, it does make one wonder why Black Widow, Hawkeye, and others aren't given Stark tech to take on the Mad Titan and his minions.
Until the Infinity War teaser is released, fans will have to wait to see the Iron Spider suit in action. But thanks to the image, we now have a much better idea of how Peter's upgraded outfit from Spider-Man: Homecoming honors the source material.
