Vin Diesel teases what teenage Groot could look like in Avengers: Infinity War. The fan-favorite character from the Guardians of the Galaxy films will have already grown into a rowdy adolescent by the time the upcoming third Avengers film rolls out next year. Following his death towards the end of the first Guardians installment, he was reborn into a cute infant that Star-Lord (Chris Pratt), Gamora (Zoe Saldana), Drax (Dave Bautista) and Rocket (voiced by Bradley Cooper) had to take turns babysitting in this summer's Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. But Groot won't last as the cute toddler for a very long time, the post-credits scene for Guardians 2 teased him in his video game-obsessed teen years.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe is celebrating its 10th year in 2018 with their biggest film thus far, Infinity War. Directed by returning filmmakers, Joe and Anthony Russo, the film boasts a massive lineup as it promises to be the start of the culmination of everything that the MCU has built over the years. Almost all characters from the past decade will finally meet-up and work together to save the entire universe from the Mad Titan Thanos (Josh Brolin) and his Black Order - including the Guardians and teenage Groot.

Diesel posted a photo of a brooding adolescent Groot on his official Instagram account so as to wish everybody a happy weekend. And although the image looks to be made by a fan, it was created in a way that it resembles other Infinity War promo posters - complete with a logo and the purple and blue color palette in the background. Have a Groot weekend... A post shared by Vin Diesel (@vindiesel) on

Marvel films have always been known for their levity. No matter how dire the situation is, there will always be a joke or a gag to break the tension just enough that the movie won't be too dark or somber. However, with as big of a threat as Thanos, cracking jokes amidst battle could undermine the seriousness of the predicament. Having Groot in the mix, with his quirks and teenage angst (not to mention the hilarity of him being a talking, trisyllabic tree) might provide the lightheartedness and humor that the flick needs without being totally jarring to some viewers.

With the apocalyptic nature of Avengers: Infinity War, death is imminent for some of our favorite Marvel characters and some fans could be reading too much into the Diesel-posted poster, presuming that Groot will bite the bullet due his sad-looking expression in the image. However, chances are very slim that Groot will be one of the casualties. The character has a huge fan-affinity and is relatively new to the MCU, which leaves a lot of narrative opportunities for them to further develop and explore the character. Technically, we have also seen him die in the first Guardians movie, and he's since regrown.
