While promoting Avengers: Infinity War, Don Cheadle, who plays Colonel James "Rhodey" Rhodes/War Machine, performed a freestyle rap in honor of the MCU. The performance was originally an unaired segment for The Late Late Show with James Corden, but has since surfaced.
Ever since his first appearance in Iron Man, Rhodey (originally played by Terrence Howard, before Cheadle took over the role in Iron Man 2) has been a loyal Avenger. Starting off as more of a sidekick to Tony Stark in the first two phases, Rhodey eventually came into his own by Captain America: Civil War, playing a significant role in helping keep the team in check, while also offering some highly regarded artillery services. So, to celebrate time well spent in the MCU, Cheadle unveiled some freestyle rap skills in front of some unsuspecting passengers on a Los Angeles bus tour. However, this footage may have never come to light had it not been for Cheadle's co-star Elizabeth Olsen, who plays Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch.
Olsen was a guest on The Late Late Show on Tuesday night to promote Infinity War, but she wasn't particularly pleased with the show's host. Olsen and other members of the Infinity War cast, including Chris Pratt, Paul Bettany, Letitia Wright, Pom Klementieff, Anthony Mackie, and Cheadle, surprised guests on a Los Angeles tour bus, along with The Late Late Show's house band lead Reggie Watts. During their time on the bus, Cheadle broke out into a freestyle rap about Infinity War, which resulted in massive applause. That said, Olsen was displeased by the fact that the segment had been cut from the show. So, in a surprise move, Corden agreed to air the clip after all, showing off Cheadle's impressive talent, while also relishing in both the MCU's past and future. Here are some of the lyrics:
"Down Melrose, your hands and toes; please keep them inside the bus. We Avengers, now you remember. We did this thing, we gonna be back in December. That's the word I heard. Lots of reshoots. You know that final battle scene was just a poo-poo."
While the freestyling is impressive on its own, Cheadle mentions something in the lyrics that may well double as information fans didn't previously know. Cheadle mentions that the Avengers will return in December. While fans may think this is referring to the characters returning to the big screen, it's much more likely he's referring to the actors reuniting for reshoots for Avengers 4. After all, Cheadle's next line is about reshoots, which are set to be done later this year. Based on Cheadle's rap, it appears those reshoots will be occurring in December.
Of course, fans won't get to see the results of those reshoots until next May, when Avengers 4 is scheduled to release. Perhaps Marvel Studios will move the date up, just like they moved Avengers: Infinity War's release date up by a week. However, there's no guarantee that will happen again. Fans will just have to wait to see Cheadle and the rest of the Avengers back in action next spring.
