The Avengers: Infinity War credits may reveal the big screen return of Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. After the resounding success of Ryan Coogler's Black Panther earlier this year, Marvel Studios is next gearing up to launch Infinity War. The third official Avengers film and the beginning of the end of the MCU's overarching narrative so far, Marvel fans are especially excited for the upcoming blockbuster. Infinity War is expected to be massive both in terms of its financial success and its sheer scope. Directors Anthony and Joe Russo have assembled a team of actors from all across the MCU, uniting previously disparate superheroes.

Though Avengers: Infinity War includes plenty of the big screen stars, fans have noted certain absences from the marketing. Most notably absent is Hawkeye, who Avengers fans are keen to see suit up alongside his teammates in the trailers and posters. But fans have also been searching for Ant-Man in the Infinity War marketing, ahead of Scott Lang's second solo film launching later in 2018. Now, the credits for Avengers: Infinity War may have confirmed one returning Marvel character who fans weren't sure would appear in the movie.

While the IMDb credits [h/t /Film] don't actually include Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury, they do feature two crew members related to the actor. Jake Garber is listed as a "make up artist for Samuel L. Jackson" and Qualen Bradley is credited as "stand in: Samuel L. Jackson." Together, they seem to indicate Jackson will, in fact, make his MCU return in this spring's Infinity War.

Jackson last appeared as Fury in 2015's Avengers: Age of Ultron, but he seems to be making a big comeback to the MCU. Late last year, an Avengers 4 casting call hinted at Nick Fury appearing in the upcoming Phase 3 capper. Plus, Avengers 4 set photos featured both Fury and Maria Hill (Cobie Smulders), indicating S.H.I.E.L.D. will play a role in the untitled Marvel film. Based on what we know, it seems Avengers 4 will deal with time travel, flashing back to the era of The Avengers. Further, Jackson is confirmed for Captain Marvel, which is currently filming, and is set before Fury lost sight in one of his eyes.

So considering what we know of other Marvel projects, it wouldn't be out of the realm of possibility for Fury to appear in Infinity War, even if only a small role. Since Jackson isn't listed in credits, it's likely Marvel is trying to keep his role under wraps, so it could be a post-credits scene. Certainly, it would be a cool throwback to Iron Man if Fury once again dropped a major reveal in the post-credits scene of Infinity War. Maybe, since Avengers 4 deals with time travel back to The Avengers, it's the same (or incredibly similar) post-credits scene that set up Marvel's 2012 blockbuster.

All that said, these IMDb credits don't offer official confirmation that Jackson will definitely appear in Avengers: Infinity War and fans should temper their expectations. If Jackson does appear in a spoiler-related capacity, like a mid- or post-credits scene, don't expect official confirmation anytime soon. Given all the secrecy around Avengers: Infinity War, fans may need to wait until the movie debuts to see for themselves whether Nick Fury returns to the MCU earlier than expected.
