Avengers: Infinity War Fans Discover New Captain Marvel Easter Egg

UPDATE: The Captain Marvel Easter egg has been debunked as an illusion.

A newly discovered Avengers: Infinity War Easter egg appears to tease Captain Marvel. Now that Infinity War is out on home video, fans are combing through the footage to try and find previously missed clues towards the MCU's future and even connections to the past. Director Joe and Anthony Russo revealed plenty of new information during the director's commentary, but that doesn't mean they addressed everything that the movie holds. Only once did they address Brie Larson's Captain Marvel, during the post-credits tease with her call sign as a signal that help is on the way.

The Captain Marvel symbol may not be known to everyone just yet, but it will. However, one of the character's aspects that people are familiar with is her traditional red, yellow, and blue costume. This is why early set photos of a green Captain Marvel costume confused so many. Well, a new Easter egg from Infinity War appears to tease a connection to Carol Danvers.

Reddit has unearthed the latest eagle-eyed Easter egg from Infinity War, which has put Cull Obsidian's accessories at the forefront of the minds of fans. As seen below, he has a piece of cloth hanging from his belt that is an exact match to Captain Marvel's colors. Not only do the red, gold, and blue colors match, but even shape of the gold lines match up with concept art of Captain Marvel's regular costume. These colors are different than Cull Obsidian's look in the merchandise for the film, but there's enough shots like the one below that looks to confirm this isn't a lighting trick - so maybe Marvel was trying to keep this under wraps all along.

If Cull Obsidian's accessory does tie to Captain Marvel, then how he came to have this is a major mystery. Speculation has immediately turned to him having previously fought her, while some even believe this could signal he killed her. With Avengers 4 theories pointing towards time travel (or even memories), her death would solve the "Where has Captain Marvel been for the last twenty years" questions. However, Marvel's unlikely to kill their first female lead in her solo movie, so this may instead point to Obsidian beating her before and keeping a piece of her costume as a trophy of sorts.

It is unconfirmed at this point that this is tied to Captain Marvel directly, but it looks like it right now. We still don't know how or why Carol's costume changes colors, so it is possible there are other similar suits in the universe and that this isn't Carol's at all. There were also early pieces of concept art for Captain Marvel that included her sash/belt, so this could be that. However this may possibly tie to Captain Marvel, we'll have to wait until next year to hopefully find out. If it isn't addressed in Captain Marvel, then maybe Avengers 4 can clear this up. Either way, this just goes to show that there's probably more to learn with Avengers: Infinity War.
