MCU Fan Imagines The Aftermath at Sesame Street After the Thanos Snap

One Marvel fan imagines the effect of Thanos' victory in Avengers: Infinity War at Sesame Street. The beginning of the culmination of everything that has transpired in the MCU since 2008's Iron Man, the Joe and Anthony Russo-directed movie set up the stage up for Earth's Mightiest Heroes' final battle against Thanos in next year's Avengers 4. Not much is known regarding the narrative of the Phase 3 capper, but it's expected to see the Avengers doing everything in their power to restore peace in the universe.

Currently, the galaxy is in shambles after Thanos fulfilled his goal of balancing the universe by killing half of life in the universe. Fans have previously discussed how other surviving characters in the MCU like Aunt May or Valkyrie may have dealt with the outcome of the galactic genocide, but one fan visualizes what it's like at Sesame Street.

Tumblr user intosnarkness came up with a fan-fiction imagining how the events of Infinity War impacted Sesame Street. In the narrative, Big Bird learns that Alan - the current owner of the iconic Hooper's Store, was part of the unfortunate half of the universe who were snuffed out of existence after Thanos' snap. Read an excerpt from the story below:

“Did a bad thing happen?”

“Yes,” Chris says, taking Big Bird’s wing in his hand. “Because of Thanos, a lot of people are missing. And Alan is one of them.”

Big Bird has to think about that for a moment. He went missing one time, when he was a blue bird in a circus, but his friends found him and brought him home. But something about Alan’s face tells Big Bird that this isn’t the kind of missing where your friends can find you.

“Is Alan dead, Chris?” Big Bird asks. “I remember when Mr. Hooper died.”

“The honest answer is that we don’t know. He might be. Or he might just be missing.”

Big Bird tries to understand that. “Missing?”

“Yeah,” Chris says. “He might come back some day, and he might not. We just don’t know.”

Sad Big Bird on Sesame Street

Towards the end, Chris added that aside from Alan, there are countless more people who disappeared after the snap, making Big Bird sadder. And although this specific story isn't canon to the MCU, it gives fans a good perspective of the full impact of Thanos defeating the Avengers. What people saw at the end Infinity War was just a fraction of the chaos that the galactic genocide caused. At least the Avengers and their allies knew what was happening, but it's infinitely more terrifying for people who didn't have a clue about what just happened. Aside from human and alien beings, the deadly click also wiped out half of plant and animal life in the universe which means that even in the most remote areas, the effect of the snap was felt.

Marvel Studios is putting off dealing with the aftermath of Avengers: Infinity War until next year's Avengers 4. Aside from the post-snap sneak peek that fans saw at the end-credit scene for Ant-Man & The Wasp, no one really knows the full consequences of the snap, perhaps even Thanos as the Russo brothers recently implied that there's a high price to pay for using all the Infinity Stones at the same time. MCU is usually good with showing audience different perspectives of a single inciting incident (case in point: the Sokovia incident in Avengers: Age of Ultron sparked Baron Zemo's revenge job against the Avengers in Captain America: Civil War). But with such a broad scope of affected areas, it's curious how they'll be able to do that with regard to Thanos' mass murder.
