New Avengers art casts Matthew McConaughey as the Hulk. The Hulk is the alter ego of mild-mannered Bruce Banner; more specifically, the scientist is first transformed into the green hero after being exposed to gamma rays. Since his 1962 debut, the Hulk has turned into one of Marvel's most recognizable superheroes, and has played a key role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Edward Norton first played the Hulk in the 2008 film The Incredible Hulk, which was the second movie in the MCU. However, Norton had a falling out with the studio due to creative differences, and Marvel subsequently recast his character. As a result, Mark Ruffalo stepped in to take Norton's place. Since then, Ruffalo has appeared as the Hulk in a number of MCU films, including The Avengers, Thor: Ragnarok, and Avengers: Endgame.

Stunning art by apexform shows McConaughey as the Hulk. Apexform's first post shows McConaughey as Bruce Banner, where the digital artist has added the respective logos for both The Avengers and The Avengers: Age of Ultron in the image corners. The second post captures McConaughey in the middle of transforming into the Hulk. Apexform has made McConaughey's eyes glow an eerie green, with the Hulk looming in the background for additional emphasis. You can check out apexform's incredible creations below:

McConaughey is a lifelong Hulk fan, and actually tried to play the superhero years before. He stated that he heavily pursued the role and let Marvel know he was extremely interested. Unfortunately, the studio decided to pass, despite the actor's apparent enthusiasm. That being said, it seems McConaughey was all or nothing on the role of Hulk. Later on, Marvel offered McConaughey the part of Ego the Living Planet in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2. However, the star ended up turning down the part, which was instead given to Kurt Russell. That being said, few can deny that Ruffalo has done a spectacular job with the Hulk. Still, it would have been fun to see how McConaughey portrayed the muscle-bound green hero.

Hulk's boundless rage is replaced by Smart Hulk in Avengers: Endgame. While the hero still has a ton of potential, the integration of She-Hulk into the MCU means that Ruffalo's Hulk will likely take more of a backseat. Although it's unclear if the uncontrollable, smash-happy Hulk will ever return, both Hulk personas would be a valuable asset for a future Avengers team. That being said, McConaughey fans will have to remain disappointed, as it doesn't look like Marvel will be recasting the beloved green hero anytime soon.
