An Avenger’s work is never done, and with today’s new Marvel’s Avengers: Cosmic Cube event, Earth's Mightiest Heroes will have plenty of dangerous new enemies to face off against. Despite a lukewarm reception compared to past superhero success stories like Rocksteady’s Batman: Arkham series or Insomniac’s Spider-Man offerings, Square Enix is pushing forward with additional DLC content for last year’s team-based superhero RPG.

So far, Marvel’s Avengers has added two additional superheroes to its roster, each one with their own designated story mission: Kate Bishop entered the fold with December’s Taking A.I.M. expansion, and Hawkeye caught a glimpse of a very bad future in March’s Future Imperfect. Next to join the fight will be Black Panther, who will be added with the upcoming War for Wakanda mission in August. But before that, the Avengers will have to contend with a force that threatens the very fabric of existence.

In the recent Marvel’s Avengers: Cosmic Cube event trailer, the iconic hero team finally faces off against Monica Rappaccini, aka A.I.M.’s Scientist Supreme. Unfortunately, she has gained access to the Cosmic Cube, an omnipotent artifact which she intends to harness to create the ultimate weapon to take the Avengers down and rewrite reality in her favor - assuming she can even control its power. Now Earth's Mightiest Heroes will have to unite to take her down, going up against her seemingly endless clone army in a brand-new DLC mission starting June 22. Check out the YouTube trailer for Marvel’s Avengers: Cosmic Cube below:

The battle between the Avengers and the Scientist Supreme has been brewing for some time now, as Rappaccini had a supporting role in the main storyline for Marvel’s Avengers and was set up to be the next major enemy in the game’s conclusion. Meanwhile, players have been slow to embrace Marvel’s Avengers due to its over-reliance on microtransactions and average gameplay, with Square Enix even losing profit when the game first launched last September.

The upcoming Marvel’s Avengers: Cosmic Cube event looks like it could be an exciting conclusion to the arc that began in the main game, and the power of the Cosmic Cube could lead to some challenging foes for Earth’s Mightiest Heroes to take down. Players can take the fight to the Scientist Supreme right now, as the Marvel’s Avengers: Cosmic Cube DLC event launched earlier today.
