Just in time for Halloween, Marvel's Avengers is adding a new comic-inspired skin that turns Captain America into a bestial werewolf. The superhero action game includes many outfits for each playable Avenger, drawing from their long history in comic books and film. While many recent Marvel's Avengers cosmetics are based on the Marvel Cinematic Universe, such as Captain America's bearded Avengers: Infinity War skin, other suits draw inspiration from the comics or feature original designs.

When Marvel's Avengers launched back in September 2020 it did not feature any skins based on the Marvel Cinematic Universe. These iconic designs soon became a highly-requested addition, and eventually Crystal Dynamics did begin adding specific suits from various live-action films. A full set of Avengers: Endgame costumes, both of Black Panther's MCU uniforms and Iron Man's armor from his debut 2008 film are among the selection. However, the popularity of Marvel Cinematic Universe skins means that cosmetics based on Earth's Mightiest Heroes' comic book designs have become increasingly rare, leading to some backlash. The addition of paid consumable items to Marvel's Avengers has also led to recent controversy, with players claiming that Crystal Dynamics is now focusing on paid items rather than meaningful free content.

The Marvel's Avengers Twitter page has now revealed the Capwolf Outfit, which will turn Captain America into a furry monster just in time for Halloween. The terrifying suit is based on a 1992 comic storyline titled Man and Wolf, which was written by Mark Gruenwald and Rik Levins. The harrowing story sees Steve Rogers transform into a werewolf and subsequently battle with other heroes such as Wolverine and Cable. Marvel's Avengers' Capwolf skin looks to accurately recreate this bizarre Marvel monstrosity, giving Captain America fur, claws and a canine snout. The Capwolf Outfit will be added to the game's Marketplace on October 21.

Despite recent controversy surrounding Marvel's Avengers, it is clear that Crystal Dynamics does not intend to stop supporting the title any time soon. Unique new cosmetic items like Capwolf continue to release, and an upcoming raid titled Klaw Raid: Discordant Sound will see players encountering the game's most challenging content to date. The raid will take players through Wakanda's vibranium mines, where they will face complex puzzles and powerful enemies. At the end Earth's Mightiest Heroes will face off against Klaw in a climactic and extremely challenging boss fight. While the raid has no set release date, it is said to be releasing before the end of 2021.

Marvel's Avengers fan frequently decry the game's recent abundance of Marvel Cinematic Universe skins, so a detailed cosmetic based on a comic book storyline is certainly welcome. However, a new skin will not be able to distract players from the game's recent controversy and Crystal Dynamics' lack of a response. A comic-inspired werewolf outfit is a great item to release around Halloween, but this skin may be too little too late for the superhero slugfest.
