Square Enix's Marvel's Avengers might be getting an Avengers Infinity War-themed skin for Captain America, according to a recent and likely accidental email announcement. The new skin would further expand the game's stand-alone universe, which has been steadily growing through DLCs like the recent Black Panther-centric War for Wakanda.

Marvel's Avengers didn't have a successful launch, and even though many of the game's technical issues have been patched out and new content continues to be released, many fans feel that the game has yet to stick the landing. Amongst the many criticisms are complaints regarding the cosmetics available for each hero and the grind-heavy, often monetized routes players were forced to take in order to unlock them. This issue has become somewhat softened since the game's launch thanks to Square Enix's commitment to releasing new content for the game, including unique skins for each playable character. While Marvel's Avengers is not set in the same universe as the Marvel Cinematic Universe films, recently released additions like the white Black Widow suit are evidence that the game is happy to take suits from the popular movie franchise.

Captain America might be the next hero to receive the MCU treatment, according to a Marketplace update that Square Enix issued to its subscribers via email. As Game Rant reports, an image of the skin was featured alongside other upcoming skins for Iron Man, thus signaling that it would soon be added to the in-game store. At the time of writing, Square Enix has not issued an official announcement for the skin, which has led many fans to believe that this reveal was not intentional. Furthermore, the Marketplace update was followed by a correction email, wherein the Captain America skin was replaced with Black Panther's Civil War outfit. The original image has been spread on social media, and can be seen on the Marvel's Avengers Updates Twitter page.

When it comes to unveiling fan-requested additions like the 2008 Iron Man MCU skin, Square Enix and developer Crystal Dynamics typically roll out the news with more fanfare. The fact that the fan-favorite Captain America Infinity War suit was so unceremoniously announced is certainly curious. The suspicious amendment made in the corrective email is also strange and hints towards the reveal being a mistake rather than an official announcement.

The more gruff and grizzly take on the star-spangled hero's look has achieved iconic status since its appearance in 2018's Avengers: Infinity War, so it would make sense that Marvel and Square Enix would want to capitalize on that with Marvel's Avengers. That said, fans of the game might have to wait a bit longer than expected to try the skin out. Hopefully, the team behind Marvel's Avengers can do the dark and brooding outfit justice if it does eventually release.
