The writers behind Avengers: Endgame want to write a Secret Wars movie for the Russo Brothers to direct. Stephen McFeely and Christopher Markus have been a part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe since 2011, when they wrote the screenplay for Captain America: The First Avenger. The writing duo has worked together on multiple Marvel projects since then, including Agent Carter and Thor: The Dark World. They have also written the screenplays for both Captain America sequels and Avengers: Infinity War, all three of which the Russo Brothers have directed.

As for Secret Wars, the comic was a twelve issue series that ran from 1984 to 1985. Secret Wars introduced the character Beyonder, who was a cosmic entity that transported several heroes and villains to a planet referred to as the Battleworld. Secret Wars II was published a year later, but in 2015, Marvel also rebooted the series. The 2015 Secret Wars had a similar premise to the '80s version, but this comic series saw the destruction of multiple Marvel Universes, with different aspects of each universe being tied together to forge the Battleworld. The Russo Brothers first expressed interest in making Secret Wars in April 2018, but now it looks like their writers would also be onboard for the project.

Screen Rant is able to exclusively reveal that both McFeely and Markus would be onboard to write the screenplay for a Secret Wars movie. After telling the writers that the Russo Brothers said they wanted to make Secret Wars, we asked the writing duo if they would be onboard as well, to which Markus replied, "I have to read ‘Secret Wars’ again. It’s literally ben ten thousand years" and McFeely commented, "If Joe and Anthony do another Marvel movie and they don’t have us write it, I will be personally offended". When elaborating on McFeely's comment, Markus joked, "Yeah, there’ll be problems at home".

Russo Brothers Avengers Endgame SR

Given the storyline for the 2015 Secret Wars, now seems like the perfect time to make a Secret Wars movie for the MCU. With Disney acquiring 20th Century Fox, Marvel Studios can finally start to introduce different characters like the X-Men and The Fantastic Four into their cinematic universe. Secret Wars could be the perfect way to introduce these characters and explain their absence in the MCU, since they could have just been part of an alternate universe this whole time. The MCU will supposedly look very different after this year, and Secret Wars would no doubt drastically change the MCU.

Many characters are rumored to die in Avengers: Endgamebut the film is also seemingly the end of the Russo Brothers' contribution to the MCU. That being said, if Marvel decides to make a Secret Wars movie, the Russo Brothers have said they would return. While McFeely and Markus' comments are in no way confirmation that Secret Wars will happen, it only makes sense that they would write the project if the Russo Brothers are directing. Disney has already seen massive success with these writers and directors before, so it would be a safe bet to let them all work on Secret Wars together.
