Avengers: Endgame was going to include a post-credits scene setting up WandaVision. Elizabeth Olsen and Paul Bettany are back reprising their MCU roles, this time on the small screen with a sitcom-inspired project. The Disney+ show kicks off MCU's Phase 4, which features a mix of movie and series projects on their slate.

WandaVision is Marvel Studios' most unique storytelling to date; based on what's been revealed in its one-hour special premiere, it's nothing like anything from the franchise before. It heavily leans on its inspiration with direct references to I Love Lucy and Bewitched, but with hints to a bigger and darker narrative going on. That said, if things panned out the way Marvel Studios originally wanted, Avengers: Endgame would have explicitly set-up WandaVision through a stinger

Speaking with IMDb, Bettany reveals that there was going to be a stinger that would reveal Vision in AvengersEndgame. But as it turns out, MCU architect Kevin Feige decided to scrap the idea, which the actor admittedly was dismayed with because he wanted "profit participation."

At one point I was going to be in a tag, where you opened a sort of body bag drawer and there was the Vision. Kevin kind of talked to me and said, 'I've got to pull the shots.' I was like, 'Ugh!' Because I really wanted that profit participation (laughs).

Avengers Infinity War how powerful Vision without Mind Stone

Since Vision was manually killed by Thanos in Avengers: Infinity War, he wasn't among those who were resurrected by the reverse and he didn't appear in Avengers: Endgame. That said, he was subtly referenced via Scarlet Witch, who was obviously harboring a grudge against the Mad Titan for what he did to her lover. At the very end, she also talked about the loss she suffered with Clint Barton, who was also mourning the death of Black Widow at that point. In hindsight, it was best that Marvel Studios scrapped the idea. As exciting as it was for Vision to re-emerge after the film, it takes away from the idea that the movie was supposed to mark the end of an era. Instead, Avengers: Endgame opted to forego the MCU's traditional stingers and went with sounds of Tony Stark creating his first Iron Man suit, which was definitely more appropriate for what they were going for at that point.

Additionally, teasing a project that ultimately didn't arrive until almost two years after would've been a bummer. Granted that Marvel Studios was already planning a break between the Infinity Saga and Phase 4, but the hiatus was unexpectedly extended due to the coronavirus pandemic. Considering that WandaVision wasn't supposed to kick off this new chapter in MCU storytelling, it's curious why they even wanted an Avengers: Endgame stinger teasing it. If anything, they could've hinted at Black Widow or The Falcon and the Winter Soldier instead.
