Discover the biggest reveals from the surprise second trailer for Avengers: Endgame in our breakdown. Marvel is committed to keeping the plot of the fourth Avengers film, which explores the consequences of Avengers: Infinity War, a complete secret. In fact, Kevin Feige has gone so far as to suggest that most footage from the trailers will be lifted from the first 15-20 minutes of the film, so as to limit the number of spoilers.

For all that's the case, though, we're now getting to the time when Marvel will need to reveal a little bit more in the Avengers: Endgame marketing. For one thing, although precious little official merchandise was revealed at the New York Toy Fair, it's not going to be long before said merchandise hits the shops. What's more, the post-credits scene of Captain Marvel confirmed that Carol Danvers will be arriving on Earth to join up with the Avengers very early on. It was really only a matter of time before Marvel released a second trailer showcasing Brie Larson's Captain Marvel interacting with some of the OG Avengers.

The second Avengers: Endgame trailer is an excellent one, dropping a number of hints as to the overarching plot but avoiding confirming too much. Where the Super Bowl trailer focused on the impacts of the snap, this one stresses the character journeys that have brought Earth's Mightiest Heroes to this point. Let's take a look at all the secrets that are revealed.

43. Iron Man's Origin

Avengers Endgame Trailer - Iron Man Origins

The Russo brothers have stressed that Avengers: Endgame is a celebration of the MCU's 11-year history. As such, it's appropriate that this trailer begins with a flashback to Iron Man in 2008, when Tony Stark crashed the Mark I in the desert. "It seems like a thousand years ago," Tony Stark remembers. The Avengers: Endgame trailer uses the same creative effect seen in previous trailers, with hints of red on the flashbacks.

42. Tony Stark's Message to Pepper

Tony Stark Records Message in Avengers Endgame

As revealed in the Avengers: Endgame teaser trailer, Tony Stark is trapped on the Benatar and recording a message for Pepper Potts. He recalls the road that has brought him to this place, the journey that led to him realizing he loved Pepper. It's quite a touching line of dialogue, implying that Tony now understands that he loved Pepper all along, but that it simply took him time to recognize it. The voiceover is paralleled brilliantly with another flashback shot from Iron Man; the scene where Pepper gave Tony his original Arc Reactor with a humorous observation that it's proof he has a heart. The trailer moves on to another classic shot, this one from Iron Man 3, as a grieving Pepper held an Iron Man helmet against her forehead believing Tony to be gone. Interestingly, in Iron Man 3 Tony was believed to be dead, and managed to get in touch with Pepper; there are clear parallels with Avengers: Endgame.

41. The Benatar

Avengers: Infinity War ended with Tony Stark and Nebula stranded on Titan, Thanos' homeworld. As revealed in earlier trailers, they've headed off-world in the Benatar, the ship belonging to the Guardians of the Galaxy. None of the Guardians survived the snap, and the vessel seems to be in something of a state of disrepair after sustaining damage during the battle with Thanos.

40. Tony Stark (& Nebula) Lost In Space

Tony Stark in Space in Avengers Endgame

As revealed in the first Avengers: Endgame teaser trailer, Tony Stark and Nebula are in serious trouble. They're drifting in space, and have already run out of food and water; they have just a single day's worth of oxygen left. Previous trailers have hinted that Stark will think his way out of this particular crisis.

39. Captain America's Origin

The trailer moves on to Steve Rogers now, with stylized shots from Captain America: The First Avenger. In this image, the young Steve Rogers is once again attempting to join the army in order to participate in the Second World War. Another shot swiftly follows, showing him staring at a recruitment poster, wishing he were able to make a difference.

38. Peggy Suggests Starting Over

The voice-over changes to Peggy Carter, giving advice to Steve Rogers that none of us can ever go back; sometimes the best people can do is to start over. This is a pretty ironic line of dialogue, given there's strong evidence Avengers: Endgame is a time travel film, with the Avengers going back in time to events like the Battle of New York. As much as he loved Peggy, in this case, Steve will choose to reject her advice.

37. The Aftermath of the Snap

The Avengers: Endgame trailer moves on to the aftermath of the snap, focusing on the area around the Statue of Liberty. The survivors of the snap appear to have huddled at the foot of the statue in a boat community, seeking comfort and companionship from one another. This is a major hint that there's some degree of a time jump over the course of the film to allow for this kind of community to develop.

36. Steve Rogers' Support Group

Avengers Endgame Trailer - Steve in Support Group

Steve Rogers is part of a support group of snap survivors, people who are desperately attempting to make sense of their grief and loss. Dialogue later in the Avengers: Endgame trailer suggests that Steve is running the group, taking Peggy's advice to heart, and yet is struggling to practice what he preaches.

35. Hawkeye Training His Daughter

Avengers Endgame Hawkeye Trains Daughter

The MCU's version of Clint Barton is a family man. Avengers: Age of Ultron revealed that he has a wife and three kids, who live in a farmhouse in the countryside. Hawkeye's long been attempting to retire from his superhero career in order to spend time with his family, but keeps dragging back into it; in the aftermath of Captain America: Civil War, Clint signed a plea deal with the US Government and was placed under two years' house arrest at his homestead. He's clearly enjoyed quality time with the wife and kids, and the Avengers: Endgame trailer shows a touching moment in which he's training his daughter Lila to use a bow and arrow.

Of course, comic book fans know that it hints at a dark tragedy. In the Ultimate comic book range, Clint Barton's family were killed, and their deaths launched him on a dark path. It's safe to assume that the same will happen in Avengers: Endgame; what we're likely seeing here is the precursor to Hawkeye's family dying as a result of the snap, leading to his adopting the Ronin identity (and not, as some have speculated, the MCU's Kate Bishop).

34. Ronin

Hawkeye as Ronin in Avengers Endgame

The Avengers: Endgame trailers have confirmed that Hawkeye has lost all hope in the wake of his family's deaths, and he appears to have committed himself to a life of violence, heading to Japan to take on the Yakuza. He's assumed the identity of Ronin, a vigilante identity he took up at his darkest times in the comics.

33. Black Widow Meets Ronin

Avengers Endgame Black Widow Meets Ronin

Black Widow has caught up with Clint Barton in Japan, and looks pretty shocked at how far her friend has fallen. Most of these scenes were shown in the original teaser trailer, but this new Avengers: Endgame trailer goes a little further. It shows Natasha gently taking Clint's hand, expressing heartfelt sympathy for her friend's suffering. Black Widow has worked with Clint for 20 years at this point, and she's a close friend of the family - to the extent that one of Clint's children, Nathaniel, was named after her. She, too, will be heartbroken at their deaths.

Theory: Here's Why Hawkeye May Become Ronin in Avengers 4

32. Peggy's Funeral

Avengers Endgame Trailer - Peggy Carter Funeral

One of the central themes of Steve Rogers' life is loss, and it's neatly symbolized by Peggy Carter's death in Captain America: Civil War. Peggy was the love of Steve's life, but their relationship was brought to an abrupt end when Captain America was frozen in the ice. He was able to be there for the last few years of her life, but her passing was a heartbreaking moment for the First Avenger. With the death of Bucky during the snap, all connections to Steve's old life back in the 1930s and 1940s have now been severed. This will surely be a key motivator for him in Avengers: Endgame.

Page 3 of 7: Thor's Survivors Guilt, Time Jump Proof & More Of Our Avengers: Endgame Trailer Breakdown

Avengers Endgame Trailer - Asgard

31. Asgard

The theme of grief continues, with a shot of Asgard - Thor's homeworld, destroyed during Thor: Ragnarok. Thor believed he was leading his people towards a new future, but in truth he led them to Thanos, and half of them were slaughtered. As usual in these Avengers: Endgame flashbacks, note the touch of red; in this case it's tremendously artistic, with the red flag hanging low as a symbol of death and sacrifice. This shot looks to come from Thor: The Dark World.

30. Thor and Odin

Avengers Endgame Trailer - Thor and Odin

Another flashback, another powerful memory giving a sense of all Thor has lost. Here, the God of Thunder is speaking to his father Odin, and the hand on his shoulder denotes his father's trust and approval. There's a strong sense that Thor is feeling as though he failed his father by failing to stop Thanos and keep his people alive.

29. Thor After The Snap

Avengers Endgame Trailer - Thor After Snap

The flashbacks continue, showing Thor the moment after he realized he had failed to stop Thanos. He had his shot, and he came close to killing the Mad Titan with Stormbreaker, a weapon so powerful that it even resisted the might of the Infinity Stones. But he wanted to make Thanos suffer, to enjoy his revenge, and so he didn't go for the head. Thanos' taunt will haunt him.

28. The Snap Victims

Avengers Endgame Trailer - Snap Victims

The Avengers: Endgame trailer lingers over the deaths of some of Earth's Mightiest Heroes; Falcon, Black Panther, Scarlet Witch, and Bucky. The focus is on grief and loss, with the deaths no doubt carefully chosen to convey a sense of emotion in the trailer. Falcon and Bucky are both well-developed characters thanks to the Captain America trilogy, while Black Panther's first solo movie endeared viewers to him. Scarlet Witch was one of the key characters in Avengers: Infinity War, and arguably the one who came closest to stopping Thanos when she attempted to destroy the Mind Stone. All of them died in the snap - and Thor could only watch in horror.

27. Thor Has Survivor's Guilt

Thor's dialogue suggests that he's suffering from survivor's guilt. He holds himself personally responsible for failing to stop Thanos, and he simply doesn't see why he should still be alive. The Russo brothers already portrayed the God of Thunder as struggling with PTSD in Avengers: Infinity War, and it looks as though the snap has broken him.

26. Black Widow's Hair Is Red - Confirming A Time Jump

Black Widow in Avengers Endgame

Subtle details in the trailer confirm that there will indeed be a time jump in Avengers: Endgame. Most noticeable is Black Widow's hair, which changes length and color. The events of Captain America: Civil War had left Steve Rogers, Falcon, and Black Widow on the run, and Natasha had disguised herself by dying her hair. That was why she had white hair in Avengers: Infinity War; but she's allowing the white dye to fade during Avengers: Endgame. The changes in Black Widow's hair act as a useful indicator of the passage of time in the film. The survivors - including Captain Marvel, Ant-Man, Tony Stark and Nebula - come together in the wake of Infinity War's ending when Widow has white hair, then there's a jump to them enacting their plan and Natasha recruiting Ronin when it's grown out.

25. The World Accepts The Snap - But "Not Us"

"I keep telling everybody they should move on," Steve Rogers reflects. "Some do. But not us." For all Steve has been trying to help the world to heal, he's no longer willing to just accept the way things are. The Avengers aren't moving on; they're going to put the world to rights. The fact Cap says he's been telling people to move on also suggests he was leading the support group seen earlier.

24. Bruce Banner

Avengers Endgame Trailer - Bruce Banner

The Avengers: Endgame trailer only gives a single shot of Bruce Banner; he's in the Avengers Compound, likely looking at the monitor screens that are presenting a tally of the dead from the first teaser. Avengers: Endgame is known to be the end of a three-film arc for the Hulk, one that began in Thor: Ragnarok and ran on through Avengers: Infinity War. Given that's the case, it's reasonable to assume Marvel is holding back on any major Hulk-related reveals.

23. Ant-Man Learns About Infinity War

Avengers Endgame's Ant-Man After Snap

In what's undoubtedly a deeply emotional scene, Ant-Man rushes to his family's home and learns about Thanos' snap, an event that Marvel is referring to as the Decimation. The post-credits scene of Ant-Man & the Wasp saw Scott Lang stranded in the Quantum Realm after his companions were dusted. But the same scene hinted at just how he could escape, with Janet Van Dyne mentioning "time vortexes."

Emerging from the Quantum Realm after the snap, Scott is no doubt horrified to see the state of the world, but knows who may be able to help; in the Avengers: Endgame teaser trailer, he takes the Quantum Tunnel van from San Francisco to the Avengers Compound in New York.

22. Black Widow Arrives In Tokyo

Avengers Endgame Trailer - Black Widow Arrives in Tokyo

The Avengers: Endgame trailer shows Black Widow arriving in Tokyo in an Avengers Quinjet in order to recruit Clint Barton. While the Japanese city is still brightly lit, even here a few buildings have gone dark, no longer lived and worked in after the Decimation.

21. Black Widow and Ronin Reunite

Hawkeye and Black Widow in the space ship in Avengers: Endgame

Black Widow is successful in her mission to recruit Hawkeye, and the two are shown in the Avengers Quinjet, presumably about to head back to New York. The dialogue clearly implies Black Widow has approached Clint with the Avengers' last chance plan of undoing or averting the snap.

20. The Avengers' Plan Has A "Small Chance" Of Success

Steve Rogers outside in Avengers: Endgame

The previous Avengers: Endgame trailers have hinted that Captain America has a plan to put the universe to rights, and while the new trailer doesn't delve much into that, it highlights how they have a chance. "Even if there's a small chance we owe this to everybody who's not in this room to try," Black Widow says this at the midway point of the new trailer, presumably to the team before they embark on their mission. This against odds fighting links into Doctor Strange's 1 in 14,000,605 hope of victory.

As for what the plan is, there's strong evidence it involves time travel, with the Avengers using the Quantum Realm to travel back in time in an attempt to either avert or undo the snap.

19. Hawkeye Running From An Explosion

One shot from the Avengers: Endgame trailer shows Hawkeye running from an explosion in an underground passageway. This location is seen a few times but there's absolutely no context from this scene. However, given Feige has suggested the trailer will only include footage from the beginning of the film, it's probably related to his clash with the Yakuza somehow.

18. Rocket Raccoon And War Machine Team Up

MCU: Avengers Endgame Rocket rides on the shoulder of War Machine

Rocket and War Machine look to make a formidable team in Avengers: Endgame. Marketing for Avengers: Infinity War focused on the unusual team-ups, particularly given the Avengers would be crossing paths with the Guardians of the Galaxy, but Avengers: Endgame has a much smaller cast. Still, with Rocket on Earth there's still potential for some entertaining combinations, and this looks to be a fun one. Both Rhodey and Rocket tend to love weapons - the more explosive the better - and Rocket has found a perch on War Machine's shoulder, just as he used to with Groot.

Rocket has a new look, lifted straight from the comics; this is an outfit he adopted in the comics back in 2008, as part of a Guardians of the Galaxy relaunch headed by writers Dan Abnett and Andy Lanning; the costume was designed by Tim Green and carried forward for several years. It's quite an important design; the success of Abnett's run led to Marvel Comics expanding their cosmic line, and ultimately to Marvel Studios commissioning the Guardians of the Galaxy films. War Machine, meanwhile, has a bulkier redesign as well - just as teased in some of the promotional artwork.

17. "We Will"

The Avengers: Endgame trailer includes a cryptic line of dialogue from Steve Rogers. The trailer presents it as a response to Black Widow's rallying cry, with Steve resolving to return to the superhero life in order to try to save the world. In reality, of course, the scene could be lifted completely out of context. It's unclear where Steve is, but he may be near the Avengers Compound.

16. Hawkeye In The Avengers Compound

Hawkeye cries over Natasha's death

The Avengers: Endgame trailer moves on to a shot of Clint Barton at the Avengers Compound, staring out the window at the lake. It's a perfect shot, giving a sense of just how much Clint has changed as a result of the Decimation. The hairstyle alone is remarkably different to anything Hawkeye has had before now (and MCU fans have a lot to say about it).

15. Scott Lang in The Avengers Compound

Scott in his Ant-Man costume without his helmet in Avengers Endgame

Scott Lang finds his way to the Avengers and teams up with them. He's back in uniform as Ant-Man in this shot, suggesting he's about to leap into action (a shot in the Super Bowl trailer had him and War Machine putting on helmets in the same location). Ant-Man isn't too used to superheroics on this kind of scale, so it's no surprise he looks rather worried by it all.

14. Thor With Stormbreaker

Avengers Endgame Trailer - Thor With Stormbreaker

Thor is shown remorsefully holding Stormbreaker, the weapon constructed by Eitri to put an end to Thanos once and for all. Previous trailers have hinted that Thor goes on a sidequest of some kind - perhaps to find the surviving Asgardian refugees. If that's the case, this could show him about to use Stormbreaker to summon the Bifrost.

Page 6 of 7: A Mysterious Action Scene, Ronin's New Weapons & More Of Our Avengers: Endgame Trailer Breakdown

Avengers Endgame Nebula on Titan

13. Nebula Fighting Amongst Ruins

Perhaps the most surprising addition to the Avengers in Endgame is Nebula, who was one of only two people on Titan to survive the snap. She and Tony Stark will take the Benetar back to Earth and eventually work with the other Avengers to take on Thanos.

This shot of Nebula attacking may be on Titan, meaning it takes place very early on in the film, although the background and debris is of unclear design and is a little similar to a later shot of Captain America so could be from a different fight altogether.

12. Hawkeye Has Widow's Bites

Avengers Endgame Trailer - Hawkeye Drawing Bow

Clint Barton may have taken up the Ronin identity, but he still excels with a bow and arrow. Notice the design around his gauntlets, though; these are the Widow's Bite, the weapons traditionally associated with Black Widow, and they project powerful electrical stings that can stun or immobilize an opponent. It seems Clint has borrowed a trick from his old friend.

11. Black Widow Training

Avengers Endgame Trailer - Black Widow at Firing Range

Black Widow really does seem to be the driving force of Avengers: Endgame, the one who refuses to give up and accept the world as it is. In all the trailers, she's been the one running the briefings, encouraging her weary teammates, and even - as in this shot - training to hone her skills. With major MCU stars like Chris Evans and Robert Downey Jr. expected to bow out after Avengers: Endgame, it wouldn't be a surprise to see Scarlett Johansson's Black Widow become a lot more prominent - which may well explain why a Black Widow movie is finally in the works.

10. "Whatever It Takes"

The Avengers are all agreed that they have to do "whatever it takes" to undo or avert the snap. The voice-overs here are particularly interesting, confirming that the OG Avengers are united in this mission. In order, you hear: Captain America, Hawkeye, Black Widow and Tony Stark. The repetition may just be for marketing purposes, but if it's in the movie this makes it something of a doomed rallying cry.

9. Captain America Goes To War

Avengers Endgame Captain America Angry

Captain America is shown strapping his shield to his arm and preparing to go to battle. Although it's an action beat, this scene may be from quite early on in the film; Steve Rogers is clean-shaven, but he appears to be wearing his Avengers: Infinity War costume. It's unclear how Steve has gotten so dirty, or why he's so angry at this point in time. It is possible he's in the same location as Nebula, so perhaps the first meeting between Nebula and the Avengers starts off with a fight.

8. Ant-Man Jumping Through... Something

Ant-Man jumps on a pencil in Avengers Endgame

One stunning sequence in the Avengers: Endgame trailer shows Ant-Man, shrunk down, leaping into action against an unseen threat. It looks as though a building is on fire, with Scott Lang jumping out of very small rubble to engage an enemy.

7. Tony Stark In Space

Avengers Endgame Trailer - Tony in Space

The Avengers: Endgame trailer returns to space for a shot of a brooding Tony Stark, who joins in the disturbing refrain: "Whatever it takes." No clues are offered as to how Tony and Nebula survive being stranded in space, but it's notable that Tony is wearing exactly the same top he wore in Iron Man when he created his first armor and in Iron Man 2 when he discovered a new element that saved his life. The clear implication is that Tony will figure it out - and get to Earth.

An image of the Avengers walking together in the MCU

6. The Advanced Tech (Quantum Realm?) Suits

For months now, leaked merchandise has confirmed that the Avengers will suit up in brand new uniforms - and the trailer at last gives viewers a proper look at them. One piece of merchandise called them "Advanced Tech" suits, claiming that they "[take] inspiration from some of the most advanced technology in the galaxy." These new outfits resemble Quantum Realm environmental suits from Ant-Man & the Wasp, and it's generally believed they'll be used by the Avengers to travel into the Quantum Realm.

5. The Assembled Avengers

Avengers Endgame Trailer - Avengers in Quantum Suits

The assembled Avengers are Steve Rogers, Nebula, Ant-Man, Hawkeye, War Machine, Black Widow, and Tony Stark. This confirms again that Stark will return to Earth with Nebula, and it seems reasonable to assume these Advanced Tech suits are in part Stark creations. Thor and Rocket aren't visible because of the camera angles, but the Super Bowl trailer confirmed they're in this scene too. Absent are Carol Danvers and Bruce Banner. Captain Marvel was likely being saved for her post-title reveal, while it's possible the trailer is hiding Professor Hulk or Banner is operating the mission.

4. Carol Danvers in The Avengers Compound

Captain Marvel looking at Thor in Avengers Endgame

Captain Marvel's post-credits scene revealed that Carol Danvers headed straight to Earth after receiving Nick Fury's summons. It seems she settles down in the Avengers Compound, making it her home, as here she's quite relaxed. Evidently, Thor wasn't in the base when Captain Marvel arrived on Earth, and this is his first encounter with the new recruit.

3. Thor Uses Stormbreaker Like Mjolnir

Avengers Endgame Trailer - Thor Captain Marvel and Stormbreaker

Thor can't resist showing off to impress a lady; the God of Thunder summons Stormbreaker to his hand, just as he used to Mjolnir. Avengers: Infinity War did hint that Thor had the same kind of control over Stormbreaker that he previously enjoyed with Mjolnir; when he arrived on Earth he tossed his weapon through an army of Outriders, and it swept around in an arc before returning to his hand. Now we have him very comfortable with the weapon.

2. Thor Likes Captain Marvel

Avengers Endgame Trailer - Captain Marvel Smiles

It looks as though Captain Marvel is going to fit in well with the Avengers. She doesn't even flinch in response to Stormbreaker, and simply gives a small smile. Thor, for his part, is encouraged; the God of Thunder has served with countless warrior women over the ages, most notably the Lady Sif, and he seems quite satisfied with Captain Marvel.

1. Black Widow's Hair Reveals End-Credits Connection

Avengers Endgame Trailer - Thor Likes Captain Marvel

Black Widow's hair remains an important clue when it comes to interpreting the Avengers: Endgame trailer. Notice that it's cut short and still dyed white, which means this happens shortly after the events of Avengers: Infinity War and the Captain Marvel post-credits scene.
