Kerry Condon, who voices Iron Man's user interface F.R.I.D.A.Y., recently spoke about a note she received while working on Tony Stark's death scene in Avengers: Endgame. Though it came out over a year and a half ago, Endgame continues to be a source of interest for Marvel fans. It marked the end of the Marvel Cinematic Universe as moviegoers knew it, thanks to the departures of original Avengers Iron Man, Captain America, and Black Widow. Though Chris Evans' Steve Rogers ultimately got a happy ending, Natasha and Tony weren't so lucky, both sacrificing themselves during the film. Iron Man's death came at the movie's climax, where he wielded the Infinity Gauntlet and destroyed himself in the process.

Tony began using F.R.I.D.A.Y. as a substitute for J.A.R.V.I.S. after the latter was used to help create Vision. F.R.I.D.A.Y. appeared alongside Iron Man in several later MCU movies, including Avengers: Age of UltronCaptain America: Civil War, and the final two Avengers films. F.R.I.D.A.Y. also played a role in Spider-Man: Homecoming, opposite Tom Holland's Peter Parker. Though J.A.R.V.I.S. remains Tony's most well-known interface, F.R.I.D.A.Y. was a part of many key scenes.

In an interview with Collider, Condon discussed her work as F.R.I.D.A.Y. in the MCU. Condon explained she would often do her voiceover to an empty screen for either secrecy reasons or because the scene wasn't complete, meaning others had to explain the context for each moment. Speaking on Tony's death in particular, Condon said:

But the last one when he died was like, oh my god … At the time I was like, 'But there’s hope, right? He’s not totally dead,’ and they kinda looked at me like - I go, ‘Oh my god!’ I knew my gravy train had just come to a halt! And so they said, ‘Say it like it’s the saddest thing you’ve ever said.’ And I was like, ‘Well, that won’t be f*cking hard! It’s all over!’

Avengers Endgame Iron Man death

Aside from being a reminder of just how devastating Tony's death in Avengers: Endgame was, Condon's comments also highlight the surprising nature of the moment. Though many fans assumed an original Avenger would die in the movie, Black Widow's devastating sacrifice earlier in Endgame made it seem possible the rest would at least survive. However, that wasn't meant to be, with Tony's death a heartbreaking full circle moment for the character.

Though Condon seems to think she won't appear in future MCU installments due to Iron Man's death, it's possible she could. For example, there's a chance Tony will appear in Black Widow, which is set after Captain America: Civil War. Iron Man was already using F.R.I.D.A.Y. at that point, meaning Condon could technically appear in that or other flashback movies. Additionally, as seen in Spider-Man: Far From Home, present-day MCU characters are likely to utilize Tony's tech at some point, also opening the door for more work by Condon. However, even if that doesn't happen, at least the actor knows she played a pivotal role in Iron Man's MCU journey, especially in Avengers: Endgame.
