A new Avengers: Endgame behind-the-scenes image features Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.) and Captain Marvel (Brie Larson) getting acquainted with each other. Debuting in her own standalone film, Captain Marvel just before she joined the bigger MCU in the Joe and Anthony Russo-directed flick, Larson's Carol Danvers was teased to be the last hope Earth's Mightiest Heroes had following their defeat in Avengers: Infinity War. But while she's nowhere to be found in the majority of Avengers 4, Tony Stark and Nebula (Karen Gillan) owe their lives to the most powerful hero in the film series after she saved them from dying in space.
Following their fight with Thanos (Josh Brolin) in Titan, Stark and Nebula used the Guardians of the Galaxy's Benatar in the hopes of being able to return to Earth. But with limited fuel and resources, the two remained stuck in middle of space without any hopes of being rescued. After three weeks and just in the nick of time, Carol swooped in and safely transported their vessel to Avengers HQ. And in a never-before-seen behind-the-scenes photo, fans can now see Downey and Larson in-between takes after they land back to Earth.
As part of Captain Marvel's home media release which is now available via digital download (it's set to be released on Ultra HD Blu-ray, Blu-ray, and DVD on June 11) come a new image from the set of Endgame with MCU's inaugural actor and its latest one having a conversation. Larson wears her updated Captain Marvel suit which looks stunning as it is, while Downey is dressed in Peter Quill/Star-Lord's (Chris Pratt) leather jacket that Stark found during his stint in the Benatar. As previously mentioned, Danvers wasn't in much of Endgame. After saving Stark, she led the surviving heroes' hunt for Thanos in The Garden. But after realizing that the Infinity Stones are gone and there's no way to save them from the predicament that the Mad Titan put the world in, she left Earth to help other planets. She kept in touch with Black Widow who was manning the Avengers HQ during the five-year time jump, but it wasn't until the final battle with Thanos and his minions when she came back to help his fellow heroes. At one point, she almost defeated the villain if not for him using the Power Stone. Nevertheless, she beat him up pretty badly.
It might be difficult to place where this scene was in the film at first glance considering that Downey looked healthy, as opposed to his skinny physique during this particular bit in Endgame having been stuck in space for three weeks. The effects on the actor were so impressive since it looked so realistic - to the point that it was difficult to actually look at him. Stark's deathly look, however, helped make his outburst at Captain America (Chris Evans) feel more emotional because fans are visibly reminded of what he had to go through because of the events brought by Thanos - something that they could've prevented if they only listened to his warnings.
It would've been great if there were more interactions between Stark and Danvers in Avengers: Endgame as they represent the past and future of the MCU. At one point in the movie, Stark even told her that she's needed on Earth. Sadly, with Iron Man already gone, this seems unlikely. That's unless the franchise fully dives into the multi-verse wherein another version of Stark may exist.
