Tickets for Avengers: Endgame are being sold on eBay, and some sellers are actually asking thousands of dollars. Coming one year after the universe-shattering Avengers: Infinity War, Endgame promises to raise the stakes even higher, resulting in the biggest and most epic Marvel movie of all.
It may seem impossible that the Russo Brothers could actually top Infinity War for pure spectacle, but the three-hour running time of Endgame seems to indicate that they've done just that. The new movie's biggest secrets are of course being kept under wraps, but early Avengers: Endgame trailers have given away a number of developments, including the expected arrival of Captain Marvel (coming on the heels of the Captain Marvel movie, which has itself surpassed the $1 billion mark at the worldwide box office). Naturally, the new film will see the remaining heroes left after the Snap banding together to fight Thanos, and this time they may have discovered the secret to bringing down the all-powerful Mad Titan.
Given the anticipation level for Endgame, it's no surprise that websites offering tickets on the first day of availability crashed from the volume of traffic. It is however perhaps somewhat of a surprise that some who managed to score those coveted tickets are now offering to sell their seats on eBay. As reported by CBR, some of these sellers are asking huge prices for their tickets. The highest price seen so far is $15,000 using eBay's buy-it-now option, with others going for everywhere from $5,000 to $9,000. Some of the high-priced tickets are not even for opening night.
Huge pre-release sales for Endgame are not much of a surprise when you consider that fans are extra-eager to see the movie opening weekend to avoid spoilers. Because of this race to see the movie as early as possible and not have it spoiled by the internet, Endgame is in line for opening weekend box office numbers of historic proportions.
What is new is the idea of third-party ticket sellers snapping up seats to a movie with the intention of turning around and selling them. Such things happen all the time with seats at concerts and sporting events, where tickets to the very biggest events can often fetch prices well into five figures, but movies are normally not on that level. It remains to be seen if the hype for Avengers: Endgame is really high enough that people will shell out thousands of dollars for the privilege of seeing the movie as early as possible. It's a good gamble for third-party sellers either way, as they paid normal prices to acquire the tickets in the first place.
