Thor Gets A New Costume In Avengers: Endgame
Unlike his fellow MCU Phase 1 heroes, such as Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.) and Captain America (Chris Evans), Thor mostly stuck with his old Asgardian armor with very subtle alterations in its design, particularly in its chest piece, as well as the addition/removal of the sleeves. It wasn't until Thor: Ragnarok that he significantly changed his suit (and even got his comic book helmet) in preparation for his gladiator battle with the Hulk in Sakaar. He reverted to a more Asgardian-looking armor in Infinity War, which is aptly more battle-appropriate. His signature red cape also gets a bi-color upgrade with a darker inner panel. It'll be interesting to see him wear a drastically different armor in Avengers: Endgame.
As it turns out, Thor will get a matching white suit upgrade with the rest of the surviving heroes. Thor was actually one of the first characters to be rumored to wear the said costume after promo art from an Avengers 4 toy box revealed him and Rocket sporting similar suits. Since then, a string of leaked concept art featuring the same armor worn by all surviving heroes made its way online. It's unknown where the suits will be used, but considering how they look like the Quantum Realm suit Hank Pym (Michael Douglas) wore when he rescued Janet Van Dyne (Michell Pfeiffer) in the Quantum Realm in Ant-Man & The Wasp, they are believed to be the suits that the Avengers will use to time travel.
Is Avengers: Endgame Thor's Last MCU Movie?
Much has been said about the possibility that Avengers: Endgame is the final outing for most of MCU's main heroes, including Thor. Chris Evans revealed that he, alongside Downey and Hemsworth, will be done with the MCU after Avengers 4, thus meaning that either their heroes retire or die in the final bout against Thanos. Either way, unless there are new contract negotiations, fans should prepare themselves to say goodbye to these characters after Avengers: Endgame.
But while Endgame could be the perfect swan song to Iron Man and Captain America, it doesn't feel the same with Thor. Unlike his fellow Phase 1 heroes, Marvel Studios only recently got Thor's depiction right (at least in the eyes of the general public), and it seems like there are still many stories left to be told with the God of Thunder. It will be a wasted opportunity for them to not capitalize on Thor's newfound popularity (perhaps in Thor: Ragnarok 2?), especially after Infinity War. Depending on how Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige wants to handle the film series moving forward, Thor, who's now the King of Asgard, can rebuild the kingdom on Earth, just like in the comics. Otherwise, he can just stick around for more adventures.
However things pan out in Avengers: Endgame, Thor is expected to give it his all as the remaining heroes go up against Thanos in an effort to restore order in the universe. Perhaps third time's a charm for the God of Thunder after he suffered major losses the first two times he went up against the Mad Titan.
