Wolverine could be introduced in the post-credits scene for Avengers: Endgame according to some theories. The nearly-indestructible mutant has been played on the big screen by Hugh Jackman since 1999, but he famously hung up the adamantium claws after 2017's Logan. With Disney about to acquire 20th Century Fox, his movie rights will revert back to Marvel Studios.

Ever since the Disney-Fox deal was first rumored, fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe have been wondering how and when Marvel Studios and Kevin Feige will decide to introduce their new characters. Wolverine is just one of many X-Men set to be available to be brought into the MCU, along with the Fantastic Four and major villains Galactus and Doctor Doom. There's been almost no shortage of theories based on one of the characters previously owned by Fox making an appearance in Avengers: Endgame, but none have been as popular as Wolverine.

Speculation surrounding this topic only became more prominent when Google listed Avengers: Endgame as a credit for Hugh Jackman, signifying that he would appear in the MCU blockbuster. This led many to believe he could even reprise his role as Wolverine for a special cameo. In the latest Screen Rant video, we look at the theory that Wolverine is going to be in Avengers: Endgame - whether Jackman plays him or not.

Even though Jackman previously said he would continue playing Wolverine if it was in the MCU, that time appears to have passed. Jackman has moved on from the character by most accounts, as he continues to announce new non-Wolverine related projects, such as a sci-fi thriller co-starring Rebecca Ferguson titled Reminiscence. Maybe Jackman could have a secret cameo in the film, but there's little evidence to support this theory he'll return as Wolverine.

So, what about another actor? Well, it is also important to remember that even if Marvel Studios wanted to get Wolverine in Avengers: Endgame, they legally cannot do it until the Disney-Fox deal is complete. The most recent estimations on the timeline of Disney's acquisition of Fox have the deal becoming finalized in March. This would technically give Marvel about a month to cast a new actor as Wolverine and film a post-credits scene, which is not completely impossible - just unlikely.

They may have filmed some of these scenes last minute in the past (ie: the Shawarma scene for The Avengers that was filmed after the world premiere), but this would be a different scenario. Instead of Wolverine appearing in Avengers: Endgame's post-credits scene, there are rumors that two characters from The Eternals could appear instead. If that is the case, then there simply isn't a spot for Wolverine to appear at the end of Avengers: Endgame.
