Avengers: Endgame villain Thanos takes on Superman in new fan art. Both Clark Kent/Superman and Thanos are classic comic book characters, albeit from different companies. Marvel dominated cinema last year with the long-awaited release of Avengers: Endgame. It saw the Avengers finally reclaim the Infinity Stones, defeating Thanos and saving the world as a result. As potrayed by Josh Brolin, Thanos was the definitive big bad of the Infinity Saga. He caused the deaths of several Avengers, including Iron Man and Black Widow.

Though 2019 was undeniably Marvel's year to shine, DC will offer more competition this year. It already released Birds of Prey (And the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn) with Margot Robbie. That movie didn't do as well as hoped at the box office, but was considered a critical success, with some calling it one of the best DCEU movies so far. Wonder Woman 1984 will also release later this year, letting fans spend more time with Diana Prince and Steve Trevor. Though Marvel has the advantage of time, as the MCU has been around far longer than the DCEU, popular characters like Wonder Woman and Harley Quinn have helped even the score.

Now, in the rare DC/Marvel mashup, digital artist truthbynature imagines Thanos battling classic DC hero Superman. The fight takes place in Superman's Fortress of Solitude, giving the Man of Steel the home court advantage. Superman encases Thanos in ice before using his lasers to dismantle the Infinity Gauntlet. Check out the fan art below:

The Fortress of Solitude is a huge part of Superman lore. In the comics, it's been located in the Arctic, outside of Metropolis, and several other places. It's also been referenced or shown in most Superman TV shows and movies, including the DCEU films Man of Steel, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, and Justice League. Even Supergirl on The CW has spent a lot of time there, visiting it in multiple episodes over the years. Like her cousin Clark, Kara Zor-El uses the Fortress of Solitude as a place to connect with her Kryptonian past.

Though fans will likely never see a collaboration between the DCEU and MCU onscreen, it's still fun to imagine what that might look like if it did happen. Considering the trouble the Avengers had taking Thanos down, they could have used someone like Superman fighting on their team. This is especially true since Superman appears to be easily winning his fight against Thanos in the image. It's too bad Iron Man, Captain America, and the other Avengers weren't able to call in the Man of Steel for their battle against Thanos in Avengers: Endgame.
