Avengers: Endgame is packed with references to other Marvel films and Marvel Comics properties, but it also has a very special and fun Easter egg related to the late Stan Lee – specifically his dog. The Marvel Cinematic Universe goes all the way back to 2008 with Jon Favreau's Iron Man, the first film in what would become a very successful (and profitable) connected universe of over 20 films, with more coming in the near future.

The first three phases in the MCU, collectively known as “The Infinity Saga”, came to an end in 2019 with Spider-Man: Far From Home, after reaching its highest point with Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame. The latter brought together all of the current superheroes in the MCU in order to fight Thanos and his armies and defeat them once and for all – but before that massive battle, those who survived Thanos’ snap had to travel back in time to get all the Infinity Stones and bring back those who vanished.

All those who turned to dust in Avengers: Infinity War did so in front of their teammates, except for one: Scott Lang, a.k.a. Ant-Man (and Giant Man). The mid-credits scene in Ant-Man and the Wasp revealed that Scott was in the quantum realm when the snap happened, and as Hank Pym, Hope, and Janet van Dyne disappeared, he was trapped there for five years. Once he came back, Scott came across with a memorial to fallen citizens with the names of those who vanished, and it included a fun reference to someone close to Stan Lee.

Avengers: Endgame’s Wall of the Vanished Included Stan Lee’s Dog

Avengers Endgame Stan Lee dog Easter egg

When Scott Lang finally escaped from the quantum realm thanks to a rat, he wasn’t expecting to find a world in which half the population was gone. Scott eventually found the Wall of the Vanished, a memorial consisting of various marble slabs engraved with the names of those who disappeared as a result of the snap. Scott rushed around it hoping not to find his daughter’s name, but he did found his as he was believed to be dead. It’s in that specific frame where Scott and the audience see his name engraved where a funny Easter egg for Stan Lee’s dog can be found.

Charlotte Lee is a white mini Pomeranian who had her minutes of fame back in 2018. Charlotte went missing, and Lee’s business partner Keya Morgan posted “lost dog” flyers all over the area in hopes that someone would find her and bring her back. Days later, NFL Hall of Famer Jim Brown and his wife Monique found Charlotte in their yard. After taking her to the vet and asking around, Charlotte was returned and all was well. The addition of Charlotte’s name to the Wall of the Vanished could be a joke as she went missing and was eventually found, very much like Scott Lang. Or, simply, the Russo brothers and company needed all the names they could get to make the scene possible. Still, Charlotte’s name in Avengers: Endgame is a fun Easter egg, and is even more special as Stan Lee’s final cameo was in this film.
