Avengers: Endgame directors Joe and Anthony Russo post a letter asking fans to not spoil the movie once it comes out. As hard as it may be to believe, the film is a little over a week away from hitting theaters, concluding the MCU's 22-film, 11-year Infinity Saga that helped redefine Hollywood tentpoles and popularize the shared universe model. Already, Endgame is shattering ticket sales records, illustrating that this could be an unprecedented cinematic event. Right now, a $300 million opening weekend is still within the realm of possibility.

Fans have been waiting to see this movie for a year, after the devastating end to Infinity War left them reeling. Of course, Infinity War ended with Thanos accomplishing his goal of wiping out half of the universe's population, setting the stage for a climactic showdown against the original six Avengers and some new friends (like Ant-Man and Captain Marvel). The Russos have already gone on record saying Endgame contains more spoilers than its predecessor, which only increased demand to see the film as soon as possible. Now, with the release date on the horizon, the directors are once again asking fans to preserve any and all surprises.

Taking to their official Instagram account, the Russos posted a letter similar to the one they shared last year prior to Infinity War. In the text, the filmmakers recapped what the Infinity Saga means for so many people and said viewers deserve to see the end with fresh, unspoiled eyes. Check it out in the space below:

Marvel has run an extremely secretive marketing campaign, revealing the barest bones of the plot publicly. In fact, several promotional materials consist of old footage from the previous movies, highlighting how Endgame is the culmination of an era. Several aspects specific to this film (including the Avengers' actual plan to go after Thanos) remain under lock and key, which is a smart strategy on the part of the studio. This is a film that practically sells itself, so a minimalistic advertising approach works. With the film running three hours long, anything seen in trailers and TV spots barely scratch the surface. Marvel's clearly being very guarded here, playing up the mystery to generate buzz.

Of course, Endgame is poised to be one of the more emotional MCU movies to date, seeing that it could mark the end of the old Phase 1 crew's time with the franchise. Contracts for stars like Robert Downey, Jr., Chris Evans, and Chris Hemsworth are up after this film, meaning their respective characters may die or receive some other kind of sendoff. Seeing that viewers have been following these heroes since 2008, it would be a shame if their final chapters were spoiled online before people got a chance to see the movie for themselves, so hopefully fans acquiesce to the Russos' request and let their fellow viewers go into Endgame clean.
