Avengers: Endgame directors Joe and Anthony Russo remember Chadwick Boseman. The Black Panther star passed away Friday, four years after a colon cancer diagnosis. Though Boseman was widely known for his work in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, he starred in many notable films throughout his career. He had an impressive knack for playing historical figures, including Jackie Robinson, Thurgood Marshall, and James Brown. However, he portrayed many original characters as well, including Norman Earl "Stormin' Norm" Holloway in Spike Lee's Da 5 Bloods.

Following several high-profile projects, Boseman was cast as T'Challa/Black Panther in the MCU. His character was introduced in 2016's Captain America: Civil War, directed by the Russo brothers. Black Panther quickly became a fan favorite and incredibly significant to the Black community. His solo movie came out in 2018, only a couple months before an appearance in Avengers: Infinity War. Though his role in that film was important, Boseman got one of Avengers: Endgame's most iconic moments, as Black Panther was the first character to emerge during the portals scene. Since the Russo brothers directed Avengers: Infinity War as well, they worked with Boseman a total of three times in the last five years.

As tributes began to pour in following Boseman's shocking death, Joe and Anthony Russo spoke with Deadline, calling Chadwick's passing "hard to process." The directors continued:

Chadwick was an incredibly elegant and thoughtful individual who conveyed dignity and integrity in a way that very few could. A tremendous talent who inspired a generation to stand up and be king. He understood something unique and noble about life, and was determined to use his talents in ways that impacted. He had so much to give…

The Russo Brothers also remembered Boseman on social media, sharing two photos of the actor on set as Black Panther.

The Russo brothers echo what many creatives in Hollywood have said about Boseman. Several Marvel stars have spoken of his talent and kindness. Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige also released a statement, calling Boseman "our T’Challa, our Black Panther, and our dear friend." The actor had a huge impact on the MCU and clearly on the Russo brothers themselves. It's no accident both of the directors' statements reference Chadwick influencing an entire generation. His Black Panther, as well as his entire career, had an immeasurable effect on those looking to see themselves reflected onscreen.

Boseman's body of work is immense, but, based on the Russo brothers' remembrance, it's clear he was just as impressive off screen. He leaves behind a legacy that won't soon be forgotten, especially by those who worked with him. Though Boseman's life was cut tragically short, his work in Avengers: Endgame and other iconic films will stand the test of time.
