With Avengers: Endgame just a few months away, here's a few small details in prior Marvel movies that hinted at what's coming. The Marvel Cinematic Universe has slowly been building towards their twenty-second entry since 2008. Although the plan has changed a few times along the way, Thanos became the ultimate threat for the Avengers to face, and they found out just how difficult that would be in Avengers: Infinity War.
After half of the universe's population disappeared courtesy of Thanos' snap, and the remaining heroes will attempt to bring back those they lost. This'll be no small task, and may very well require them to travel through time to get the job done. Hints of this possibility first arose during the filming of Avengers: Endgame, with an older looking Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) back at the Battle of New York and with Ant-Man (Paul Rudd). But, as much as the film is looking to finish the story of Infinity War, it's also the culmination of the entire MCU to this point and will pull on many plot threads along the way.
Most fans are already deep in their MCU rewatches in anticipation of Avengers: Endgame and can connect some dots of how prior films helped lay the groundwork for what's still coming in more ways than previously believed. Even more of these may be able to be picked out of the Super Bowl TV spot, but even that is just a small glimpse at the film. In the latest Screen Rant video, we look at some of these details from previous MCU films that hint at what's to come in Avengers 4.
There are no shortage of teases from prior MCU movies that Endgame appears ready to pay off or at least call back to. Tony going back to his black tank top look harkens back to his origin, which could really make the MCU and his arc come full circle if this is the end. There's also been teases of Captain America's new chainmail armor as early as Captain America: The First Avenger. Some of these may be more in the theory territory for right now, but the return of Ultron is a popular thought among fans.
These small details are just a few that fans can theorize about based on the small amounts of footage and plot details known for Avengers: Endgame though. Considering the vast amount of information that Marvel is choosing to hide from everyone, there's a strong chance that these details are only the beginning. The time travel element of the movie alone could result in countless opportunities for Marvel to revisit their greatest hits, but since we've only seen footage from the first 20 minutes of the film, fans should be excited for more connections to be revealed once Avengers: Endgame hits theaters.
