A fan trailer has been released for Avengers: Endgame edited in the style of the most recent trailer for IT Chapter 2. The trailer for the second and final installment of the adaptation of Stephen King’s horror epic sees a group of ordinary people reunite 27 years after they faced a child-killing primordial evil to destroy it once and for all, and has racked up nearly 18.5 million views in the nearly four weeks it’s been live.
The unprecedented popularity of Avengers: Endgame has seen countless fan edits of key moment from the film, many relating to its climax, such as Captain Marvel’s dramatic entrance in the final battle seeing her replaced by Thomas the Tank Engine, the final showdown between Stark and Thanos being retold in LEGO form, or the final Snap being soundtracked by Black Sabbath’s Iron Man.
The trailer, posted to the YouTube channel of its creator Groot Studios, draws parallels between Avengers: Endgame and IT Chapter 2, and not just from the central protagonists of each consisting of an assortment of white men, one black man and one redhead woman. Various moments from Avengers: Endgame are equated with others seen in IT Chapter 2’s trailer as a similar atmosphere is evoked by using the same music. The meticulous construction becomes apparent when the two are watched simultaneously, and should you wish to do so, start the trailer for Endgame below about two seconds after IT, and they’ll be about as close to synched up as you’ll get them.
The comparable moments in the two trailers include a character making a speech briefly recapping what happened after the last film ended; shots of a shadowed and empty battleground where the villain holds power; staring into the eyes of the villain unexpectedly returned; heroes coming back together with a declaration that there’s more work to be done to defeat their enemy once and for all; shots showing how the heroes have changed after a time jump; a lone character in eerily lit tunnels where the villain’s power reaches; the villain making a speech about how the heroes have affected him psychologically; a speech about how the villain needs to be defeated along with shots of the heroes’ resolute determination in the face of all they've endured; a quick-fire montage of characters facing the villain; and a final shot of the villain’s contorted face.
