As Avengers: Endgame continues to tear up the box office records, fans are still reeling from everything in the movie. While it somehow managed to be a satisfying end to the 22-movie story arc of the MCU, Endgame was a superhero movie like no other. Picking up after the devastating events of Avengers: Infinity War, the film spent a lot of quiet moments showing the heroes dealing with their loss. While that was a bold and inspired choice, of course, there was still a lot of action scenes.
Through their five films in the MCU, the Russo brothers have shown they have a real talent for fight sequences. Unsurprisingly, this film has more than a few beat-em-up scenes that rank among the MCU's most memorable moments. Here are all of the fight scenes in Avengers: Endgame, ranked worst to best.
None of the fight scenes in Endgame are a total letdown, but this might be the most disappointing one. Leading up to his reappearance as Ronin, we are led to expect a truly remorseless and badass vigilante. When Black Widow tracks him down to Japan, he is showing off these skills as he takes out an outfit of Yakuza.
The fight scene is impressive for being done in one take and it certainly shows the violent man Clint has become since losing his family. But as fight scenes go, it's pretty standard. The choreography is nothing special and it's over pretty quickly. Not a bad scene but not a stand-out either.
Following Infinity War, fans waited anxiously for a year to see Thanos pay for what he did. Once Endgame started, they didn't have to wait too long. After the short cold-opening, the remaining Avengers, now joined by Captain Marvel, head into space to track down Thanos.
The first confrontation is only ranked at the bottom for its briefness, but it is one of the movie's most shocking moments. The Avengers descend quickly, giving Thanos no chance at all before Thor severs his head. This is our heroes acting brutally and passionately but still ultimately failing despite Thanos losing his head in the end.
One of the best parts about these massive team-up movies from the MCU is seeing certain heroes sharing the screen for the first time. In the massive climax of the movie, the movie lets the audience see all the amazing female heroes come together in one epic shot to fight together for the first time -- sadly, minus the MCU's first female hero, Black Widow.
The moment is likely seen one of two ways by fans. Either it is a pandering moment of fan-service or it is a whole lot of fun. While we tend to think it's the latter, as a fight scene, it's all too brief and just relies on seeing these characters share the screen.
For being the best of friends, Natasha and Clint sure do fight a lot. We first saw them trade blows in The Avengers when Clint was under Loki's mind control. They faced-off again in Captain America: Civil War when they found themselves on opposite sides of the disagreement. However, this final fight between them is certainly the most emotionally charged.
Needing to sacrifice a life to get the Soul Stone, the two old friends tussle with each other to ensure they are the one who dies in order to save the other. It's a fast-paced skirmish with each one getting the upper hand at different points. In the end, it was interesting seeing characters fight to save each other.
There are a lot of people who could be mad at Thanos but Scarlet Witch might have the biggest reason to hold a grudge. Not only was she forced to kill Vision to stop Thanos from getting the last stone, but Thanos then brought Vision back to kill him in front of her. Needless to say, when they met again, she was angry.
We've known Scarlet Witch had the potential to be one of the most powerful Avengers but in this moment, we see her realize that herself. Concentrating her pain, she not only goes toe-to-toe with Thanos, she has him dead to rights. It's only when he has his ships blast the battlefield that he lives to fight for a few more moments.
When the heroes travel back to the Battle of New York from The Avengers, you just knew someone was going to run into their past self. While Banner gets an embarrassing look at his much less civilized Hulk from those days, the real treat is Captain America going up against himself.
Mistaking his older self for Loki, the younger Cap is still in boy scout mode while the more battle-hardened Cap from the future has no patience for this youngster. It's also fun to see the more experienced Cap isn't above fighting a little dirty.
Ever since Nick Fury send that desperate message in the post-credit scene for Infinity War, fans assumed Captain Marvel would be the key to beating Thanos. Surprisingly, she wasn't a major part of Endgame as she was off keeping the peace elsewhere. But when she does show up, it was worth the wait.
The two face off as Thanos attempts to reacquire the gauntlet and deliver the final snap. She shows her power by nearly breaking his hand as she holds him back. Though a short fight, there are some great moments like Captain Marvel not reacting at all to Thanos' headbutt and Thanos using the Power Stone to even the odds.
Most fans suspected that Endgame would mean a permanent end to some of the MCU's biggest heroes. So when these three iconic Avengers walked out together to take on Thanos, we were more than a little concerned. With the universe on the line, these heroes give it there all in this brutal fight.
It's a real treat to see the heroes who started it all back teaming up once again in this climactic fight. They play off each other extremely well but Thanos holds his own, making this a nail-biting and extremely intense fight. They've come a long way from fighting each other in the original Avengers movie.
There are a whole lot of moments in Endgame that make the audience stand up and cheer, but maybe the most satisfying is watching Captain America finally wield Mjolnir. It is an epic moment as Cap finds himself as the last man standing against Thanos and the destruction of the universe.
As fun as it was to see the three heroes together, it feels appropriate that it should be Cap to stand alone (for a while at least). He proves to be a natural with the hammer and stand his ground. Thanos' brutality is also unwavering and seeing Cap's shield smashed to bits had us holding our breath.
Many of us assumed the fallen Avengers from Infinity War would eventually return, but few could have predicted they would return in such an epic way. As Cap prepares to take on Thanos' entire army, portals begin opening bringing every conceivable hero from the MCU to Cap's side.
To see all these characters finally sharing the screen together is enough to give you goosebumps. It only gets better when Cap finally gets to say, "Avengers Assemble" and they all charge into battle together.
