Warning: This article contains SPOILERS for Avengers: Endgame.
Avengers: Endgame is finally out all around the globe, but one fan couldn't keep it together while watching the film and was rushed to the hospital. After 21 movies spread across 11 years, not to mention the additional wait following the cliffhanger ending of Avengers: Infinity War, fans now see how The Infinity Saga ends. But alongside the resolution of the Thanos storyline comes the end of the journey for some of the franchise's beloved heroes.
It was no secret that Endgame would likely be the swan song for some of the MCU's founding heroes, and that came to pass. After successfully accomplishing their mission of bringing back everyone who died due to Thanos' snap in Infinity War with their "Time Heist", they were confronted by another threat - Thanos, from a different timeline. A huge battle ensued, with the full force of the MCU battling the Mad Titan and his massive army composed of the Black Order, the Chitauris and Outriders. But in the end, it all boiled down to Tony Stark/Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.) using the Infinity Stones to snap the villain and all his minions into dust, and in the process, dying a heroic death. It's only one out of the many emotional moments in the film, and some are taking them worse than others.
WFYMYNEWS2 (via CBR) is reporting that a 21-year-old female fan in China had to be rushed to the hospital due to uncontrollable crying during her viewing of Endgame. Apparently, she was suffering from hyperventilation, as she found herself "short of breath and her hands and feet felt numb." The doctors gave her oxygen, and were luckily able to control the situation.
As previously mentioned, Endgame is peppered with emotional sequences throughout. And they're not all of the same variety. While Tony's death is arguably the saddest moment in the movie, there are sequences in the narrative that fans who've been following the MCU since 2008 may find particularly touching. Directors Joe and Anthony Russo, alongside writers Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely, made sure to wrap up other lingering story arcs with regard to the cornerstone heroes of the franchise, and they did it in a very satisfying way. It's unclear at what point this particular fan started hyperventilating, but with a film so dense and full of memorable moments, there are many possible guesses.
As dangerous as this instance was, it's also an indication of how enormously invested fans have become in these characters and their stories. When the MCU began via Iron Man, no one expected it to be this massive and resonant around the world. Now that Avengers: Endgame has wrapped up the stories of most of the original Earth's Mightiest Heroes, the MCU's biggest undertaking is to make sure that fans continue to be this invested in the characters left intact.
