Dave Bautista admits that he's disappointed that Drax the Destroyer didn't get to kill Thanos in Avengers: Endgame. Introduced in Guardians of the Galaxy, the character was hell-bent on seeking revenge for the death of his family, after realizing that the Mad Titan was ultimately to blame for the crime.

After that, however, it hadn't been properly revisited again. There was a moment in Avengers: Infinity War where he had the chance to confront Thanos, but that didn't work out. Before he could even get close, the Mad Titan already used the Reality Stone on him. This was the closest he's gone to taking up the villain on his own. While they were reunited again in Titan, there was already a lot going on, so Drax's personal vendetta had to be set aside. Five years passed after the decimation, and the hero once again found himself on the same battlefield as the villain. Still, they weren't able to personally encounter each other due to the sheer number of characters at play. Thanos died twice in Infinity War and Endgame, but Drax never got the opportunity to hold the alien accountable for what he'd done to his family

Speaking with JoBlo, Bautista candidly revealed that he's disappointed Drax didn't get to kill Thanos. However, he understood that because there's a lot of people wanting the same thing in the MCU, but only Thor in Infinity War and Iron Man in Endgame were able to accomplish the deed. Read Bautista's full statement below:

Yeah, I think everybody was. I said in interviews somewhere where that I wish Drax would’ve killed Thanos and I got all these people saying, ‘That doesn’t even make sense! How could you say that? Drax doesn’t deserve to get to kill Thanos!’ And I said it because there’s not a character in the Marvel Universe that doesn’t want to kill Thanos. Of course Drax wanted to kill Thanos. Everybody wanted to kill Thanos. So yeah, a little disappointed, cause I kinda take that whole storyline very personal. But, I think every character wanted to get their hands on Thanos. I have to say on the record that I love Josh Brolin [Thanos] to death. He’s actually one of my favorite people and by far one of my favorite actors. I love him. He’s such a brilliant actor. He’s overlooked way too much.

Avengers Endgame Thanos Death

Realistically, the chances of Drax actually getting to kill Thanos were very slim to none. While he was amongst the very first MCU characters to have a personal grudge against Thanos, almost everyone developed the same resentment following the decimation. Additionally, Marvel Studios just didn't do a very good job developing his personal arc. After it was established in the first Guardians of the Galaxy film, it felt like it was almost forgotten. If anything, Nebula was a much bigger disappointment, as she never even got the chance to really confront her adoptive father for all the abuse he inflicted on her. It would have been great if both characters were at least given their respective alone time with Thanos just to call him out for everything he'd done to them.

With Thanos gone after Avengers: Endgame, Drax's story will continue through Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 directed by James Gunn. The threequel will be the final outing for the original line-up of the cosmic heroes, which means that some of them might ultimately meet their end in the blockbuster. Hopefully, Drax's arc will get the wrap-up it deserves.
