The directors of Captain Marvel say they can't wait to see what happens when Carol Danvers and Thanos come to blows in Avengers: Endgame. Captain Marvel, described as the MCU's strongest hero to date, could serve as a worthy opponent to the Mad Titan in the upcoming film. A character strong enough to move planets may be what the Avengers need when they go up against Thanos a second time.

Last year's Avengers: Infinity War sent the heroes of the Marvel Cinematic Universe on a mission to prevent Thanos and the Black Order from assembling all six Infinity Stones. The Avengers, the Guardians of the Galaxy, Spider-Man, Doctor Strange, and Black Panther all made an effort to fight Thanos and his minions, but even they couldn't stop him. Despite the sheer number of superheroes involved in the battle with Thanos, some were missing from the action. Both Ant-Man and Hawkeye will jump into the fray in Avengers: Endgame, with Captain Marvel joining as well, following the release of her solo movie.

In an interview with AMC Scene, Captain Marvel directors Ryan Fleck and Anna Boden discuss Carol Danvers and reiterate that she is "the most powerful superhero in the MCU." Fleck explains that Carol herself is surprised by the extent of her own powers in the beginning of Captain Marvel.

At the beginning of our movie, she doesn't know how powerful she is. But by the end, you'll see that, uh … let's just say this: I'm very excited to see what she does to Thanos in ENDGAME.

Captain Marvel Binary Powers

Though the idea that Captain Marvel is the MCU's most powerful character isn't news at this point, the suggestion that she can go toe-to-toe with Thanos may be the biggest testament of just how formidable Carol Danvers is. Even the Hulk, the strongest superhero in Marvel Comics, was manhandled by Thanos at the beginning of Avengers: Infinity War, which was no small feat to say the least. Thor was among the only characters capable of even momentarily hindering Thanos' plans. It remains to be seen if Captain Marvel will fare any better than the Hulk or the God of Thunder.

It's possible that beating Thanos would be an impossible task without Captain Marvel's aid. The snap at the end of Infinity War wiped out half of the universe, including most of the heroes who challenged him. This leaves only a handful of characters capable of making a stand against Thanos. Will a short-handed team of Avengers be able to succeed where a much larger group failed? It may be the addition of Captain Marvel and her Binary powers that make the difference in Avengers: Endgame.
