Marvel Studios' Avengers: Endgame stunt coordinator Sam Hargrave reveals a neat hidden detail about the scene in which Captain America (Chris Evans) fights himself. Acting as the culminating chapter of Marvel Studios' Infinity Saga, Avengers: Endgame featured plenty of moments meant to delight the fans who have watched the Marvel Cinematic Universe for the last decade. One such moment occurs during the Avengers' time heist, when the team of Captain America, Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.) and Ant-Man (Paul Rudd) return to 2012 during The Avengers.

While attempting to retrieve Loki's scepter containing the Mind Stone, future Captain America must fight the 2012 version of himself, who believes older Steve Rogers to be one of the God of Mischief's tricks. The Cap vs. Cap fight was an epic showcase for not only the character, but the filmmakers' skills with regard to fight choreography and visual effects - it also ended by giving Captain America's butt the recognition it deserves. Plenty has been said about how directors Joe and Anthony Russo and their team brought the Cap vs. Cap fight to life, but now the film's stunt coordinator reveals a new detail.

In an interview with Digital Spy about his upcoming feature-length directorial debut, Extraction, Sam Hargrave spoke about his work as the stunt coordinator on Avengers: Endgame. Hargrave had been the stunt double for Captain America on both The Avengers and Captain America: The Winter Soldier, then served as stunt coordinator for Captain America: Civil War, Avengers: Infinity War and Endgame. His brother, Daniel Hargrave, took over as Evans' Captain America stunt double for Infinity War and Endgame. But for the Cap vs. Cap fight, it gave Sam Hargrave a chance to wear Captain America's costume again and for the brothers to battle it out on screen:

That's why I got back in the suit, so that I could say that. Marvel's great at this, but there's a lot of digital face replacement and there's a lot of epic moments where that is the brothers Hargrave duking it out on screen in Avengers: Endgame. And that's the reason I did it, because that stuff lives forever. You get to tell your kids, your grandkids, that that was me and my brother doubling and fighting in that movie.

While some of the stunts in the sequence were performed by Evans, since he had to film both sides of the fight, it seems that Sam and Daniel Hargrave were the stunt doubles for the different versions of Captain America, adding a new layer to how the scene came to life. It's cool to know that not only was the fight sequence done by two brothers, it also pitted Captain America's Endgame stunt double against his double from The Avengers, adding an incredible detail of authenticity to the scene. When so much of the Captain America fight was CGI - even his helmet - it's neat to learn more about the practical efforts that went into bringing the scene to life.

Like the fans themselves, Avengers: Endgame's Captain America fight gave the Hargrave brothers an awesome memory to hold onto as Marvel moves into their next phase. At the end of the movie, Steve Rogers retired from being Captain America, and Evans wrapped up his time in the MCU. While the Captain America mantle will live on with Sam Wilson (Anthony Mackie) in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, Evans and Steve Rogers are unlikely to return (any time soon, at least). Fans may have been disappointed to see the original Captain America go, but the Cap vs. Cap fight in Avengers: Endgame was one of many epic moments to give the character an appropriately entertaining sendoff and even a year since the film came out, there's still more to learn about the scene.
