See a BTS look at Black Widow and Hawkeye's emotional goodbye in Avengers: Endgame thanks to Jeremy Renner. The two original members of the Avengers have always been the most grounded of the bunch. Former spies-turned-world-saving heroes, the friendship that Natasha Romanoff (Scarlett Johansson) and Clint Barton have is among the best of the entire Marvel Cinematic Universe. Fans have seen many adventures with the two of them, while also just being teased of what happened on missions to Budapest and more.

Before Avengers: Endgame, though, it had been three years since Nat and Clint shared the screen, and their reunion came under the worst circumstances. Half of the universe's population was decimated by Thanos, including all of Hawkeye's family members, sending the sharpshooter on a katana-wielding killing spree for the next five years. Once they were reunited, they stayed right by each other's side, all the way till the end.

Hawkeye and Black Widow were paired up to go Vormir in Avengers: Endgame to retrieve the Soul Stone, but they did not know that one of them would not be making it back. The scene is one of the more emotional of the entire film as Black Widow sacrifices her life to save everyone else. Now, Renner has offered us a look at the making of this scene, sharing a photo on Instagram of him and Johansson in costume and holding hands moments before their characters would fight to make the sacrifice play.

Renner and Johansson have appeared in three MCU films together before Avengers: Endgame, so the two of them getting to be together at least one more time here makes for a great combination and one that fans will miss seeing in the future. Considering the magnitude of this scene and how much time they spent together filming, this must've been an emotional sequence to shoot for both of the stars. Plenty of fans have found this scene to be incredibly emotional too, but the send-off for Black Widow has not been without some criticism. Some have questioned the choice for Widow to die, pointed out how a prominent female character had to die both times on Vormir, and wondered why Natasha didn't receive a proper funeral.

While this would appear to be among the final moments that Renner and Johansson would film together, there is always the chance this could not be the case. Black Widow may very well stay dead in the MCU moving forward, but she does have a solo movie that will start filming soon. There have been rumors that Black Widow could tell her origin story and recruitment to join S.H.I.E.L.D., which would then involve Hawkeye and give the two actors a chance to work together one more time. But if that doesn't happen, then this scene from Avengers: Endgame will continue to be a memorable moment for fans, but also Renner and Johansson.
