Warning! Spoilers for Avengers/Defenders: Tarot #3 below!

It's not unheard of for Avengers to temporarily step into the roles of fellow teammates. Captain America wielding Mjolnir was an incredibly exciting moment in Avengers: End GameBut, what would happen if the Avengers were thrown into a blender and their powers were redistributed? Avengers/Defenders: Tarot #3 finds out.

Avengers/Defenders: Tarot by Alan Davis and Paul Renaud is a reality-bending adventure, where the villainous Diablo grabs the ichor and tarot cards to gain control of the Avengers. However, once his plan starts to fail, he jumps through a mysterious portal. Doctor Strange follows him as it closes and ends up traveling through time (encountering Galactus before his arrival on Earth) and finds himself in an entirely different reality after Diablo's tarot cards are sliced in half.

Doctor Strange ends up in a reality where familiar Marvel heroes have completely new powers, appearances, and codenames. Doctor Strange becomes a major hippy who sits on Silver Surfer's board - who rides through the astral planes.  Captain America is now Major Gamma, who is a Hulk wielding Cap's Vibranium shield. Silver Surfer is now Captain Cosmos, who appears to be a remix of Guardian, as he's wearing a blue and star ensemble as the guardian of the universe. Meanwhile, Scarlet Witch is the new Sorceress Supreme as Scarlet Strange, the Hulk is now the Hulkhoid - an android Hulk, the Vision is Reaper - the specter of death, Namor is now the wizard of Atlantis, Imperius Rex, and Valkyrie is now Eiserne Jungfrau (Iron Maiden) - the first sword of Asgard.

Diablo is justifiably confused with the new universe around him. He tells the remixed Avengers/Defenders that "none of you are as you should be... and I shouldn't be here." This new reality is attacked by a group of cutesy superheroes called The Unbelievables along with football players that could be a reference to NFL SuperPro. "Cosmic order has already begun to collapse. The fabric of reality cannot survive if you are permitted to exist," a giant demon-looking monster tells the Avengers/Defenders group before saying he's going to eliminate them. Like the heroes, reality is slowly blending together.

In previews for Tarot #4, the final issue of the four-part miniseries, the  Avengers/Defenders amalgamation will fight against the clock to return things to normal. Will the changes to reality have any permanence or can the superteams figure out how to fix things before it's too late? It's going to be an uphill battle for the Avengers/Defenders, but at the very least, it will be cool to see the new powers they wield.
