1 Avengers 6 Theory Seems Much More Likely After Recent Kang Reports

The Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Multiverse Saga has established Kang and his variants as the threats to defeat, but recent reports about Kang’s place in this era of the MCU make one big theory about Avengers: Secret Wars a lot more likely. After following Thanos, his quest for the Infinity Stones, and his defeat in the Infinity Saga, the MCU is now focusing on the exploration of its multiverse and the many mysteries and dangers living in it, which has given this connected universe a lot of exciting opportunities, such as bringing back characters from past Marvel projects and introducing alternate versions of various characters, especially those of the saga’s main villain, Kang the Conqueror (Jonathan Majors).

Kang was established as the Multiverse Saga’s villain in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, which was key in setting up the events of the upcoming crossover event Avengers: The Kang Dynasty, as his variants are now set to have a big role in the rest of the Multiverse Saga. However, a theory about Avengers: Secret Wars suggests that it won’t be linked to The Kang Dynasty in the same way as Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame, and instead, it will deal with a conflict separate from Kang and his variants, and a recent report on Kang’s place in the Multiverse Saga has made this theory a lot more likely.

The MCU's Multiverse Saga Wasn't Originally As Focused On Kang

The MCU’s multiverse has introduced new events and concepts, and one of the most important ones is that of variants. These are characters who are not from the Sacred Timeline (that is, the universe/timeline the MCU has been set in from the beginning) or who have broken the predetermined chain of events. This has allowed the inclusion of characters like Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield’s versions of Spider-Man and Peggy Carter as Captain Britain, but this has also introduced a group of dangerous antagonists: Kang’s variants. The first one introduced in the MCU was He Who Remains, the creator of the Time Variance Authority and overseer of the Sacred Timeline, who made his first and only appearance in Loki, where he was ultimately killed by Loki’s variant, Sylvie. Loki season 1 ended with the reveal of the TVA now having a giant statue of Kang the Conqueror, but he didn’t make his official debut until Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania.

While all this seems like Marvel’s plan for the Multiverse Saga was always to have Kang as the main villain, a report (via The Direct) reveals that might have not been the case. Marvel reportedly changed its plans for Phase 6 (of which not all titles have been revealed yet) after seeing Majors’ performance in Loki and the dailies from Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, making Kang the center of the Multiverse Saga. Of course, the question that pops up after this is what was Marvel’s original Phase 6 plan if they changed it after seeing what Majors did in Loki, but with Majors’ future in the MCU unknown after his arrest, those original plans might be set into motion after all.

Marvel Studios Won't Likely Get Rid Of Their Initial Phase 5 And 6 Plans

Marvel surely already had Phases 5 and 6 mapped out by the time executives saw what Majors did as He Who Remains in Loki, so it’s unlikely that the studio got rid of their initial plans. Kang’s presence in the MCU was given away when the title of the third Ant-Man movie was revealed, so Kang was definitely going to have a place in the MCU’s Multiverse Saga, though not a central one as he now does. With Majors’ future unclear for now, Marvel could go back to those plans for Phase 6 and adapt them to what they have already established, which would mean that Kang won’t be the threat to deal with in Avengers: Secret Wars, and instead, the sixth Avengers movie will see a different villain, one who fits the Secret Wars storyline better thanks to his role in it in the comics: Doctor Doom.

New Kang Report Makes Doctor Doom More Likely For Avengers: Secret Wars

If Kang originally wasn’t the main focus of the Multiverse Saga, this means that someone else was, and the most likely option is Doctor Doom. When the title of the sixth Avengers movie was revealed, speculation about the introduction of Doctor Doom to the MCU began, and various theories have emerged ever since suggesting ways in which Doom can make his big appearance in this universe. In the 2015 Secret Wars storyline, Doctor Doom had a key role, becoming God Emperor Doom, the Lord and Messiah of Battleworld who the surviving heroes look to overthrow in order to restore the universe. Doctor Doom’s presence in the MCU seemed unlikely not long ago, but with the confirmation of the Fantastic Four’s introduction in Phase 6, Doom’s role as the villain in Avengers: Secret Wars is now more likely.

Although the presence of a bunch of Kang’s variants in the MCU is an exciting and interesting addition, there have been a lot of questions about how they would fit the Secret Wars storyline, even more so now that Kang the Conqueror was defeated at the end of Quantumania. All this is a lot clearer if Marvel didn’t plan for Kang to be the main bad guy of the Multiverse Saga, and it makes it very likely that, after all, Doctor Doom could be the threat to defeat in Secret Wars, while Kang’s variants will only be the villains in The Kang Dynasty.

Avengers 5 And 6 May Be More Separate That Infinity War And Endgame

Avengers: The Kang Dynasty and Avengers: Secret Wars are being considered the Multiverse Saga’s Infinity War and Endgame and with good reason, as they are all crossover events concluding an era of the MCU, but the upcoming Avengers movies might actually be separate. If the Multiverse Saga wasn’t designed around Kang from the beginning, it’s likely that his variants will only be the villains in Kang Dynasty and Secret Wars will focus on someone else, like Doctor Doom, thus making them separate events unlike the last pair of Avengers movies, as Endgame was the continuation of Infinity War. Avengers: The Kang Dynasty, Avengers: Secret Wars, and Kang’s role in Phase 6 might end up being different than expected, but more fitting with what Marvel initially planned.
