The Avengers 4 trailer is reportedly being formatted for IMAX theaters and may be arriving very soon, except it's not (see update below). Ever since Avengers: Infinity War ended, fans have been dying to get a look at what comes next. Marvel's waited longer than some anticipated to do any sort of marketing for Avengers 4 and hasn't even revealed the film's title just yet. Those days of secrecy are finally winding down, now that Avengers 4's reshoots have been completed.
The rumored titles for Avengers 4 have taken the spotlight of late, with both Annihilation and The Last Avenger being popular contenders for the movie's subtitle. Meanwhile, promo images of Avengers 4 toys have surfaced and revealed brand-new Avengers team uniforms. Those promo images have further fueled fan speculation about the film's storyline - speculation that may either be confirmed or debunked by the impending trailer launch.
A new report from @ImAFilmEditor states that the trailer for Avengers 4 is currently going through DMR (Digital Media Remastering), so it can be formatted for and, thus, shown in IMAX theaters. The conversion process shouldn't be too difficult, seeing as Avengers 4 was shot entirely with IMAX cameras. As for the credibility of this report, this user previously revealed Solo: A Star Wars Story's first trailer was going through DMR two weeks before the trailer was officially released. Still, while there could be some real fire behind the smoke this time, it's still best to take all this with a grain of salt, until further notice.
Update (12:45 PM EST): We've confirmed with IMAX that this isn't true. It's not going through any DMR process currently. The film was shot on the same IMAX cameras that Infinity War was however as we discussed with the directors (Anthony and Joe Russo) on set. It obviously could in the future, though.
Although a firm launch date has yet to be announced for the Avengers 4 trailer, this new report indicates that it should be finished and ready to go very soon (maybe even in a couple of weeks). An alleged description of the Avengers 4 trailer has been floating around the Internet of late, but it shouldn't be much longer now before we find out whether that description is even remotely accurate or not.
Still, this begs the question: exactly when will the Avengers 4 trailer hit theaters, anyway? Assuming that the latest report on the matter is accurate, it could make its way online by the tail-end of October. Bohemian Rhapsody is the next big IMAX release and is coming out November 2nd, but that doesn't mean it will bring the Avengers 4 trailer with it. Disney also has The Nutcracker and the Four Realms set to debut that same week, though that one isn't an IMAX release. Overlord comes out the week after in IMAX, but the R-rated WWII zombie movie doesn't exactly scream Avengers 4, either. The best bet might be Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald, which will begin screening in IMAX on November 16th, just ahead of the Thanksgiving holiday frame. Whichever way you cut it, though, the Avengers 4 trailer is definitely closer to arriving now than it ever has been before.
