Thanos will wield a new weapon in Avengers 4 and a recent leak reveals the best look at Thanos' sword yet. Marvel Studios delivered on years of build up with Josh Brolin's portrayal of the Mad Titan taking center stage in Avengers: Infinity War. With the Russo brothers fully realizing Thanos on the big screen after brief appearances in previous Marvel Cinematic Universe movies, he came away from Infinity War victorious. After gathering all six Infinity Stones in his Infinity Gauntlet, he snapped his fingers and wiped away half of life across the universe. The snap took a toll on Thanos too, as he and the gauntlet were permanently damaged according to the Russos.
When audiences next see Thanos in Avengers 4, he should be operating a bit differently as a result. He's achieved his evil goal and has no motivation to further terrorize the Avengers. But, Earth's Mightiest Heroes won't sit by and let their friends, loved ones, and complete strangers be forgotten. They'll look to bring the "dead" back to life and will come into conflict with Thanos, and he'll pack a new weapon this time.
A new leaked piece of artwork from Avengers 4 arrived on Reddit today that reveals Thanos' new weapon. As previous concept art revealed, Thanos will return to wearing his battle armor, but he's also added a double-bladed sword. Thanks to this new leak, we have the best look yet at the latest weapon Thanos will wield.
This latest leak offers a slightly updated design for Thanos' sword. Previous concept art showed completely solid blades, while one of them was significantly shorter. The new leaked image shows gaps in the design of the blade. It is difficult to say whether the different sized blades have been maintained based on the angle the sword is laying at, but both sides do appear to have 16 slots equally separated. This could mean that Thanos' sword is even larger, and thus more dangerous, than previously believed.
Thanos has proven himself in combat already as he barely broke a sweat taking down Hulk and had no trouble stopping Iron Man's creative attacks. Now that he is adding a sword, it could prove to be even more difficult to defeat him. The Avengers' numbers may be smaller but they're all together now and are adding Ant-Man and Captain Marvel to their ranks to try and defeat Thanos. But, with his potentially weakened state after Thor stabbed him in the chest with Stormbreaker and whatever damage the snap did to his own body, it would appear that Thanos will need the additional armor and weaponry in Avengers 4.
