It looks like Tony Stark and Pepper Potts will be sharing the screen once again when Avengers 4 hits theaters in May. Robert Downey Jr. and Gwyneth Paltrow have been appearing in the MCU since the universe’s launch with Iron Man in 2008. They have shown up in 6 films together, with the fourth Avengers installment marking the seventh.

Since the news that Avengers 4 reshoots were underway, several actors have taken to social media to confirm their appearances. Just yesterday, Paltrow posted a photo of herself on Instagram and, although the picture didn’t give away any details, the caption did. She added #pepperony, the name that fans have given to Pepper and Tony as a couple. Karen Gillan also confirmed her return for the reshoots and Chris Evans revealed that he has reverted to his classic Captain America look for the film. Jeremy Renner proved with absolute certainty that Hawkeye was also reporting for duty.

Paltrow posted another photo on Instagram today, one that included Downey Jr., with the caption “lunchtime” and the #pepperony. It seems that Paltrow will play a larger role in Avengers 4 than she did in the previous film. The actress has admitted that Pepper and Tony will have a child together and also posted images of herself in a motion capture suit. It’s unknown if this is for armor that Tony made for her protection or of she is going to suit up as her alter ego, Rescue, as she has in the comics.

Avengers 4 is set to end the MCU as we know it. Thanos has been on the rise since the first Avengers installment in 2012. This film will wrap up that story, likely while laying the groundwork for a new one. The contracts are up for most of the MCU’s mainstays and it’s unknown exactly who is staying and who is leaving. Chris Evans has repeatedly assured fans that he is done playing Captain America, but the futures of many other heroes remains uncertain.

The outlook on Tony Stark has been fairly grim, with Downey Jr.’s tenure in the MCU assumedly coming to an end after this film. For over 10 years, the actor has been the heart of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and, although there is a new school of heroes on the way, it likely won’t be the same without him. Even if fans do say goodbye to Tony, that definitely doesn’t mean that Pepper will be exiting as well. Although she could certainly leave, it’s just as likely that she will remain in some capacity, as Rescue or otherwise. It has been previously reported that Pepper will appear in Spider-Man: Far From Home. Depending on how Avengers 4 wraps up, this could be the last time that viewers see this fan favorite couple together.
