Captain Marvel takes on Thanos in a gorgeous brand new fan-made poster for Avengers 4. With Ant-Man & The Wasp officially in theaters, there are only two films left in Phase 3 of the MCU, next year's Brie Larson-fronted Captain Marvel, and two months after, the still-untitled fourth Avengers installment. Since Carol Danvers is expected to play a significant part in the culmination of the MCU's first decade, the plot for both movies are still being kept tightly under wraps.
Since Captain Marvel will be a period piece set in the 90s, don't expect the movie to fully dive into the aftermath of Avengers: Infinity War. That said, it might provide clues as to what people can expect to happen in the Avengers' final bout against Thanos, considering Marvel Studios' penchant for interconnecting their movies despite them being set at varying points in time. Directed by Ryan Fleck and Anna Boden, Captain Marvel will also star Samuel L. Jackson's two-eyed Nick Fury, Clark Gregg's Phil Coulson, and Lee Pace's Ronin the Accuser. It's set to highlight the Kree-Skrull war as well.
Courtesy of digital artist BossLogic comes a brand new Avengers 4 poster featuring Captain Marvel standing in front of Thanos, ready to go head-to-head against him. The image, which was shared on the creator's Twitter account, sees Carol Danvers sporting her classic red, blue and yellow colors as her fist glows with energy, all geared up for the sure to be titanic battle. Meanwhile, on top of the completed Infinity Gauntlet, Thanos is also carrying his battle ax and wearing his full body armor - something that he didn't get to wear much in Infinity War. While fans shouldn't necessarily expect that this will be the Mad Titan's look in Avengers 4, it's worth noting that Thanos' ensemble is based on recently revealed concept art for the still-untitled film, art which also offered people's first look at the complete roster of heroes for the movie. Check the poster out below:
While not every hero got a one-on-one showdown with Thanos during Infinity War, it's not outside the realm of possibility to imagine Carol facing down the Mad Titan like this. After all, she's poised to be the strongest hero in the franchise - even rivaling the intergalactic villain's power - as she's said to have the ability to move planets. That would certainly dwarf Thanos tossing a moon at Tony Stark. However, chances are that their one-on-one encounter won't be the battle that will ultimately defeat Thanos. If anything, it should be a cooperative effort from all of the heroes, allowing them all to get their own personal measure of revenge. This especially holds true for characters like Nebula and - presuming she's resurrected - Gamora, who have felt Thanos' evil wrath more than once.
As previously announced, Marvel Studios will be skipping Hall H at SDCC later this month. That means that any major details for Captain Marvel and Avengers 4 may not arrive until official marketing for both movies rolls out towards the end of the year. But right now, Marvel Studios is being cagey about the two movies, so fans will have to make do with incredible fan-made artworks like this one in the meantime.
