Captain Marvel will play a major role in Avengers 4 and change the balance of power in the fight against Thanos. As half of life across the universe was being wiped away in Avengers: Infinity War, Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) sent out a giant page with his dying act. He called Brie Larson's Carol Danvers, who audiences will first meet next year in Captain Marvel. Marvel is finally starting to promote their first female solo movie, starting with the first official look of Larson in the Captain Marvel suit. After this, she'll be used in a big way to try and stop Thanos next May.

The writers behind Avengers 4 have already been teasing Captain Marvel's unprecedented power level and those will be useful to try and stop Thanos. The Avengers roster has been severely depleted, but we've already seen a glimpse of her teaming up with the rest of the MCU heroes in Avengers 4 concept art. That team may be small, but she'll prove to be a changing force.

EW spoke to Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige about Captain Marvel and how the lead character will play an important role moving forward. The Avengers may not know it yet, but Feige teases Carol will help even the firepower to give the heroes a better chance to come out of Avengers 4 victorious.

She is more powerful than any character we’ve introduced thus far. So that alone tells you that there’s a reason Nick hit that button at the end [of Infinity War], when he realized that they were up against something far bigger than they had ever been up against before. And having her on your side is hopefully going to change the balance of power in a way that they desperately need.

Captain Marvel Movie MCU Updates

Audiences may not yet be familiar with Captain Marvel's incredible powers, but they will be soon. She's got the standard superhero powers of enhanced strength, durability, agility, and so on. However, it's her photonic blasts and binary powers that can truly set her apart. If she's able to control the massive amount of power she now has in her Kree/human DNA, then she'll definitely prove to be a game-changing force in Avengers 4. And with Josh Brolin confirming scenes with Larson, we know we'll at least get to see how she fares against the Mad Titan.

Captain Marvel playing such a pivotal role in Avengers 4 shouldn't come as a surprise either. Marvel clearly wanted to clue in the unfamiliar on her upcoming introduction with Infinity War's post-credits scene. Her symbol is the last thing viewers see, and if Fury's dying act is calling Carol for help, then that just goes to show how vital she'll be. How exactly she joins the fight against Thanos remains to be seen, but she will be a much needed ally for Iron Man, Captain America, and the rest of the Avengers in Avengers 4.
