Scarlett Johansson's Black Widow may have a run-in with the Yakuza in the upcoming, as-yet untitled Avengers 4. Since the fourth Avengers movie doesn't arrive until May of 2019, not much is known regarding its narrative. However, with filming on Avengers 4 now officially underway, rumors and unconfirmed reports about the project have started to circulate. Among those rumors is the claim that Natasha Romanoff will indeed survive Thanos' (Josh Brolin) initial attempt to take down Earth's Mightiest Heroes in Avengers: Infinity War.

Before production began for Avengers 4, reports emerging asserting that the movie was casting extras to play Japanese gangsters, as well as Japanese cafe patrons. Additional reports have since indicated that Avengers 4 is indeed filming in Tokyo, as indicated before. We now have additional details, indicating that at least one key Avenger will be involved in the film's Yakuza sequence.

The news comes courtesy of Omega Underground, which unearthed a casting call for the Avengers 4 Japan location shoot. The announcement reveals that project "Mary Lou" - which is the working title for Avengers 4 - is looking for a female character stand-in. Based on the following description, the criteria listed fit Black Widow more than anyone else in the MCU:

"*MARY LOU*

-Experienced Stand-In

-Woman Who Appears Caucasian (5’10-6’0)

-Very Short Hair or Bald

-Shooting overnight on August 16"

The biggest indicator that this casting call is for Black Widow is the specification of the body double's hair. While the spy has not sported a pixie cut on the big screen before now, Johansson has been spotted sporting her character's signature red locks, only much shorter in length. In the world of Marvel Comics, the character has gone from hairstyle to hairstyle, but she did have her hair a lot shorter (similar to what Johansson has now) during The Mighty Avengers run.

Since the Yakuza tie-in revelation, fans have tried to trace how they could be connected to the movie division of the MCU. The mobsters have already been featured to some degree in Marvel/Netflix shows like Daredevil and Iron Fist - and they are expected to show up in some capacity in The Defenders too. However, they have yet to make an appearance in any of the franchise's big screen properties. That said, among all existing MCU film superheroes, Spider-Man and Black Widow are the ones who have strong individual comic book connections to the street-level gangsters.

Last month, the first look on Infinity War rolled out at the D23 Expo and San Diego Comic-Con, revealing Black Widow with shorter, blonde hair. Should this new rumor turn out to be true, then Natasha Romanoff may have her iconic fiery red mane back sooner than later, in the MCU.
