Anthony and Joe Russo's Avengers: Infinity War just might be the biggest movie ever made; it's certainly the biggest superhero film. It will reportedly feature at least 76 characters, of which a large number has already been confirmed. And while it surely seems like everyone who's ever appeared in the Marvel Cinematic Universe will be appearing in Infinity War, that's not exactly the case. There are quite a few characters - some big, some small - that aren't confirmed for the film. However, that doesn't mean they can't still show up.It's worth noting that a number of the following characters were showcased in Vanity Fair's photoshoot from November, which commemorated Marvel Studios' first decade in filmmaking, but that doesn't mean all the characters featured in that portfolio are slated to appear in Avengers 3.Related: Avengers: Infinity War Scene Features 40 Superheroes

Captain Marvel

Brie Larson is slated to play the title role in Marvel's first female-led solo movie ever, Captain Marvel, but audiences don't want to wait until her standalone flick to see her on the big screen. Carol Danvers possesses a slew of abilities that can assist the Avengers in Infinity War. Unfortunately, Larson isn't on the film's cast list.

Of all people, though, Captain Marvel not appearing in Avengers 3 actually makes sense. She hasn't even made her MCU debut yet, and she's not scheduled to do so until 2019. And since her solo movie is set in the '90s, it'll be interesting to see how (or if) her story factors into Avengers 4. But that doesn't mean she can't at least make a cameo in Infinity War.

Nick Fury

Samuel L. Jackson's Nick Fury is currently M.I.A. in the MCU. He hasn't been seen since he aided the Avengers in saving Sokovia's citizens in Avengers: Age of Ultron. He wasn't in Captain America: Civil War and it seems that he might not be in Avengers: Infinity War either, which is an egregious mistake. Marvel would be remiss if they didn't bring back the man who started it all for the movie that marks the beginning of the end of the MCU's first saga. But, it looks like he's at least going to be appearing in Avengers 4.

Agent 13

Emily VanCamp Captain America Civil War Sharon Carter Romance

Steve Rogers and the Carter family go way, way back, but they're all but gone from the MCU now. Peggy Carter passed away (canonically), and Sharon Carter, aka Agent 13, has gone underground. Sharon last appeared in Captain America: Civil War, in which she helped Rogers, Bucky, and Falcon, flee the authorities (namely Iron Man).

Considering her and Rogers' present situations, her appearance in Infinity War seems rather irrelevant. Also, another reason Carter may not appear in the movie is because of Emily van Camp's previous commitment to starring in FOX's The Resident TV series.

Lady Sif

Jaimie Alexander had a prominent role in Thor's life in Phase 1 and Phase 2, but she's been absent in Phase 3, and there's no telling if she'll be in Phase 4 or not. At the moment, Sif's whereabouts in the MCU are unclear, but one thing's for sure: she will not be appearing in Infinity War.

Alexander's previous commitments to NBC's Blindspot precluded her from appearing in Taika Waititi's Thor: Ragnarok, but that ended up being a blessing in disguise seeing as she's one of the few Asgardians still alive. Plus, it seems she may survive Infinity War as well... by not being in the movie.

Heimdall

Heimdall wields his weapon in Thor Ragnarok

Idris Elba not appearing in Avengers 3, at least in a cameo role, is curious seeing as Heimdall was on the ship with Thor, Loki, and Hulk heading for Earth at the end of Thor: Ragnarok - and all three of them are in Infinity War. So, that begs the question, what's going to happen to Heimdall? Seeing as Elba is not confirmed to appear in Infinity War, we'll just have to wait and see if he's killed off-screen when Thanos and the Sanctuary-II come knocking.

Wasp

Paul Rudd is confirmed to be reprising his role as Ant-Man in Avengers 3, but it's unclear at the moment if his superhero counterpart, Hope van Dyne, aka the Wasp, will also be appearing in the movie. Evangeline Lilly made her debut as Hope van Dyne in Peyton Reed's Ant-Man, and she's slated to receive an upgrade as the Wasp in Reed's Ant-Man and The Wasp later this summer, but for now, it looks like that's the only Marvel movie she's scheduled to appear in this year.

Grandmaster

Taneeler Tivan, aka the Collector, was recently confirmed for Avengers 3, but his brother isn't. En Dwi Gast, aka Grandmaster (Jeff Goldblum), is certainly a powerful being and someone that could be useful to the Avengers. Fans would undoubtedly like to see him appear side-by-side the Collector on the big screen, but unfortunately, the Grandmaster doesn't have much a role in the fight between Thanos and, well, everyone else. Tivan, on the other hand, still has one of the Infinity Stones in his possession.

Hank Pym meeting Scott Lang in prison in Ant-Man

Hank Pym

Hank Pym, the original Ant-Man, was a founding member of the Avengers in the comics (and he created Ultron, but that's another matter), yet he's been relegated to his home in favor of giving Scott Lang the spotlight as Ant-Man in the MCU. Marvel Studios would be doing fans a service if he became an honorary Avenger. That's just wishful thinking, though. At most, fans may see Michael Douglas appear as Hank Pym in Avengers 3, possibly helping Scott avoid the authorities. But for now, he's not confirmed for Infinity War.

Korg & Miek

Thor made some... interesting friends in Thor: Ragnarok, such as Korg (played by Waititi) and Miek, two characters who were trapped fighting in the gladiatorial arena for the Grandmaster. Of course, Thor befriended them and helped them escape the planet. But fans may be concerned about their fate once they all left Asgard, considering what happens in-between Thor 3 and Avengers 3.

Just because they're not confirmed for Avengers, though, that doesn't mean they will receive an unceremonious death off-screen. In fact, Marvel Studios' Kevin Feige previously mentioned that they have plans to bring back the fan-favorite characters down the line.

Aunt May

Aunt May closes a door while smiling in Spider-Man: Homecoming

Peter Parker has powers, sure, but he can't do much without his trusty companion, Ned, who is confirmed to appear in Infinity War. But, can Peter go out as Spider-Man now that Aunt May knows his secret? That's the real question here, and her not appearing in Avengers 3 while Peter is out saving the world may cause some issues back at home. Marisa Tomei can certainly appear in a cameo role, of course, but that seems unlikely. The film is already packed.

Defenders

Spider-Man has a wide-ranging set of superpowers, but is he more skilled at taking down villains than the Defenders. Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist, not to mention the Punisher, are all strong individuals capable of extraordinary feats, so why aren't they being utilized on the big screen? Surely, it would be useful to have someone will a virtually impenetrable body on their side. Then again, the Netflix side of the MCU remains relatively unconnected to the overarching shared universe. If Daredevil couldn't be incorporated into Civil War, he probably won't appear in any other Marvel movie, especially now that the X-Men and Fantastic Four are on their way.

SHIELD

ABC's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. was originally billed as being the connective tissue between the movies and the TV side of the shared universe, and that much was evident by the notable effect Captain America: The Winter Soldier had on the series. Plus, the series set up Avengers: Age of Ultron as well. But over the years, the show has distanced itself from the movies, and there's no chance that the core team will be making an appearance (let alone be mentioned) in Infinity War.

Of course, the S.H.I.E.L.D. team is currently trapped in the future and are preoccupied with preventing their own world-ending event. Still, how long can the movies ignore the fact that S.H.I.E.L.D. is up-and-running?

Inhumans

Inhumans

Marvel's Inhumans is, unfortunately, one of the worst rated comic book-themed shows ever released, and there's a chance that ABC has quietly canceled the series, which makes the Royal Family's - particularly Black Bolt - involvement in Infinity War even less likely than it was before. Aside from the Inhumans Royal Family, though, it's curious as to why the Avengers aren't employing other Inhumans that exist in-universe, such as Quake.

Runaways

Runaways

There was zero chance that the Runaways would appear in Avengers: Infinity War... or any Marvel movie for that matter. In fact, it's even questionable if the Hulu show exists in the MCU at all. But, they are a team of superpowered beings (and people with incredibly powerful weapons that aren't easy to come by), so it would still be helpful to Earth's mightiest heroes to have them around when things go south, which will definitely happen.
