Which Marvel Actors Aren't Returning After Avengers 4?

Spider-Man Homecoming - Civil War fight

Tom Holland (Peter Parker/Spider-Man) is poised to become one of the MCU's central characters after Avengers 4. He will not only get to join the team he's always wanted to be part of, and get to wear the Iron Spider costume, but Holland's contract also calls for him to headline the sequel to Spider-Man: Homecoming, which takes place immediately after Avengers 4, and make another appearance as part of his six-picture deal.

Sebastian Stan (Bucky Barnes/The Winter Soldier) is only midway through his nine-picture deal, so he's sticking around, most likely assuming the mantle of Captain America after Steve Rogers' departure. Another person who could possibly carry Cap's shield is Anthony Mackie (Sam Wilson/The Falcon). Mackie has at least two more films in his contract, so Avengers 4 may not be the last we see of the Falcon (or Redwing).

With Doctor Strange 2 and Black Panther 2 expected to happen after Avengers 4, Benedict Cumberbatch (Dr. Stephen Strange), Chadwick Boseman (T'Challa/The Black Panther) and most of their supporting casts can be expected to continue to reprise their roles in Phase 4. As for Ant-Man and The Wasp, Paul Rudd (Scott Lang/Ant-Man) and Evangeline Lilly (Hope Van Dyne/The Wasp) could continue to appear in the MCU past their team up film, which releases in between Avengers 3 and 4. Lilly is reportedly sitting out Infinity War and will appear in Avengers 4, but there's no reason the MCU's most diminutive heroes can't keep fighting evil.

Also nowhere near completing her reported eight-picture deal is Cobie Smulders (Maria Hill), who was last seen in Age of Ultron but was confirmed via VF to be returning in Infinity War. Whatever happens to Sam Jackson's Nick Fury, Maria Hill could assume the role of MCU's main super spy going forward.

Last but not least, Brie Larson (Carol Danvers/Captain Marvel) is poised to become one of the centerpiece superheroes in the MCU in Phase 4 and beyond. Set in the 1990s, Captain Marvel will premiere in between Avengers 3 and 4, with Carol Danvers officially entering the present day MCU in Avengers 4. As for her supporting cast, including Ben Mendelsohn and Jude Law (Mar-Vell), the jury's out on whether one or both of them will join Captain Marvel in the present day MCU.

Nothing is entirely certain until the cataclysmic events of the next two Avengers films releases and fans actually get to see what state the MCU is in when Phase 4 begins. Even if some characters die, with flashbacks and other comic booky means applied, fans may never truly have to say goodbye to their beloved Marvel heroes, no matter what the future of the MCU brings.
