The characters of Avatar: The Last Airbender help make a dynamic show because they all possess different abilities. Where one member of Team Avatar possesses a potentially fatal flaw, another has a strength that ultimately saves them all. Even Azula, Mai, and Ty Lee balance out the cast. These strengths and weaknesses are what make the show's narrative so engaging.
These different skills make each character more suited for different situations. How would these skills help Aang and friends in Squid Game? These two worlds are vastly different, but it is interesting to consider the possibilities. If the heroes and villains of Avatar: The Last Airbender were thrust into Squid Game, how would they fare?
Aang
Aang's vows as a pacifist monk make it virtually impossible for him to win the Squid Game. As exemplified in the "Sozin's Comet" episode, Aang will do anything to avoid taking a life. He learns an entirely new method of bending to avoid killing Ozai despite Ozai's endless crimes.
While Aang's bending skills could definitely take him to the end, his belief that all life is sacred would constantly hold him back. One of the themes of Squid Game is the upper class's disrespect for human life. These two belief systems would continually clash and result in Aang's elimination.
Uncle Iroh
Uncle Iroh has a past littered with war, but that isn't the man he is by the time Avatar: The Last Airbender begins. He has moved on from that destructive past to watch over Zuko in his exile. He becomes more philosophical and wise. All he wants is to guide Zuko down the right path.
Iroh would be the character that sacrifices himself so that others can move on. He is obviously much older than the rest of the cast, and so he would believe that one of them should win over him. Iroh would not make it far in the game because he would push others ahead of him.
Ty Lee
Ty Lee is one of the more innocent members of the group. That isn't to say she hasn't been through her fair share of trauma, but it doesn't appear to affect her in the same way it affects the other teens. She remains bubbly and upbeat at all times. Ty Lee is part of a very formidable team in Avatar: The Last Airbender, which makes her likelihood of a good alliance strong.
Ty Lee's acrobatic skills could also help with the challenges. She is very nimble and light on her feet which could help with both the Dalgona game and the glass bridge. However, her innocence would ultimately be her downfall. She would most likely be betrayed by her alliance, especially if she is aligned with Azula as she is in Avatar: The Last Airbender.
Mai
Mai likes to appear aloof and disconnected, but she is actually very loyal to her friends. Throughout the show, she either follows the orders given to her or puts other needs above her own. She very rarely goes out and takes what she wants simply because she wants it. Mai can hold her own in a fight but her throwing knives, one of the best weapons in Avatar: The Last Airbender, would be confiscated, leaving her at a disadvantage.
Mai's strategy of listening to others would help her form alliances in Squid Game, but she would eventually fall victim to them. She would either sacrifice herself for a friend or find herself betrayed by her alliance. Mai's abilities in combat are strong, but her relationships would fail her.
Ozai
Ozai relies solely on his strength and instilling fear in those around him. Much of the things he accomplished in Avatar: The Last Airbender were started by others like his father or daughter, Azula. Ozai does have strong Firebending skills, but much of his bravado is simply built on intimidation.
Ozai would fall into the same role as Deok-su from Squid Game. He would be the villain who makes it a good way through the games due to his alliance. However, his ego would ultimately be his downfall. His elimination would probably be brought on by a betrayal within his alliance, or by the hand of one of his enemies.
Azula
Azula is strong, skilled, and calculated. She knows what she wants and she knows exactly how to get it. One of her go to methods is manipulation. She knows how to use those around her to get what she wants. Azula is one of the best villains in Avatar: The Last Airbender for a reason. This would make her excellent at building an alliance that would push her further.
Azula's skillset would definitely take her far in Squid Game. She is deadly in combat and one of the best benders in Avatar: The Last Airbender. However, as seen in the show, Azula does not do well under prolonged pressure. She eventually suffers a mental breakdown that takes her out. The stresses of Squid Game would definitely damage her mental health and be the cause of her elimination.
Katara
Katara is another incredibly strong bender. By the end of Avatar: The Last Airbender she is a Waterbending master capable of taking down Azula. She is also fiercely loyal. She puts everything she has into defending her loved ones which would help her form strong alliances. But this may also be her downfall.
Katara has said herself that she is unable to standby while people are hurting. This means Katara would definitely turn into a character who sacrifices herself for others. She wouldn't be able to stand watching her friends suffer. While her skills make take her far, her loyalty would bring her down.
Sokka
Sokka is in a similar situation as Katara as he is also both skilled and loyal. As the oldest member of Team Avatar (until Zuko joins), Sokka often sees himself as the protector of his friends. He doesn't have the ability to bend so he relies on melee weapons and becomes quite skilled at them.
Sokka would probably have a similar downfall to Katara. As the older brother figure to the group, he would never allow others to die in his place. However, Sokka is an incredible strategist. As seen throughout Avatar: The Last Airbender, Sokka has many smart moments. He is the mastermind behind many of the Gaang's missions. It's this knack for strategy that would make him a more likely winner than his sister.
Zuko
Zuko is determined to a fault. He spends years chasing down the Avatar before he is even sure that the Avatar is actually alive. Nothing anyone says to him could pull him from this path. Even after joining Team Avatar, Zuko is still as determined as ever. He simply sets his sights on Ozai instead of Aang.
Zuko has the skill and determination to go all the way to the end. He is skilled in Firebending and combat, he is intelligent, and he understands strategy. However, Zuko doesn't see himself as worthy. He believes he has no honor, so why would he deserve to win Squid Game? It is more likely he would sacrifice himself in the end to allow a more worthy player to win.
Toph
Toph is the perfect candidate for a Squid Game winner. She is extremely skilled in combat and Earthbending. Her Earthbending also allows her to see things none of the other players would be able to. While Toph does care for her friends, she usually isn't loyal to a fault like they can be.
Toph has ruthlessly won Earthbending competitions in the past, so she understands the dynamic of being in an arena at all times. She is the one most likely to be able to withstand the mental strain of the games. Toph would definitely make it to the end of the Squid Game.
