The star of Netflix's Avatar: The Last Airbender series has teased another as-yet-unannounced cast member. As fans eagerly await any news about the live-action adaptation, the best they can come by now are casting announcements. The hope is that Netflix's new project can manage to live up to the high bar set by the original animated series.

Created by Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko, the original Avatar: The Last Airbender ran on Nickelodeon for three seasons between 2005 and 2008. A hybrid of anime and traditional American animation brought US audiences many unique Asian-inspired cartoon styles. It told a breathtaking story that captured the hearts and imaginations of its fans. After the failed live-action movie adaptation by M. Night Shyamalan, fans are eager to see the franchise brought to life successfully, thus the attention given to Netflix's new series.

Posting recently to his Instagram, the star of Netflix's Avatar: The Last Airbender, Gordan Cormier, teased an unannounced mystery cast member he was currently spending time with. Though much of the principal characters from the original series have already been cast, the potential for whom Cormier might be sitting and laughing with "in the school trailer" still includes several possibilities. Clearly, it would need to be a young actor and most likely someone who shared some time with Aang in the series. Feel free to check out the post below:

One idea that immediately comes to mind is Aang's childhood friend Bumi (later King Bumi). Bumi may require both a younger and older actor as he appears in flashbacks to 100 years ago in Aang's past and the present of the story. Perhaps Cormier is hinting at spending time with a younger actor playing Bumi. It's only a theory, but truthfully the fact that there have been no Bumi casting announcements and he is such an important character does give weight to the idea.

Whoever the mystery cast member is, there is no denying the enthusiasm surrounding Netflix's Avatar: The Last Airbender series. Every cast member can enhance the series in new and exciting ways, bringing new depths to the characters they will portray and adding layers to the established world beyond what was seen in the original animated series. Of course, the flip side is the wrong casting choice could hurt an established character, but it seems like the showrunners have taken the time to ensure the casting decisions are not made lightly. Hopefully, the series will continue the legacy of the original positively and help wash away the lingering memories of the last live-action attempt.
