The universe of Avatar: The Last Airbender has exploded with a newfound popularity fifteen years after its original airing thanks to its re-release on Netflix in the United States. Now its sequel series, Avatar: The Legend of Korra, is making waves (water bending joke fully intended) since it has hit the streaming platform. Fans have been quick to binge, bumping the series up to the number one trending spot almost instantly. Many fans are left with the existential dread that comes with finishing any epic tale, but don't fret, much like the original series, Korra's adventures continue on through a series of graphic novels.

Launching in 2012, The Legend of Korra continued the Avatar cycle with the next master of all elements, the titular character Korra. Set years after Aang's death, the series allows fans to explore the universe of elemental bending further, seeing the effects that the characters from the first series left on their world, and also exploring the ways in which bending has grown and shaped the technology around them. While fans continue to bicker about which series was better (although everyone knows in their heart that its the original), the franchise faced numerous production issues during its original run that impacted its airing, such as Nickelodeon not having confidence in a show featuring a female protagonist. Even with its many issues, the series ultimately went on to be a champion of LGBTQ+ representation, and is still beloved by many today for adding heavily to the lore of the ATLA realm.

Luckily, the journey doesn't have to end when the credits from the last episode roll, the adventures are continued through a series of graphic novels published by Dark Horse. Much like the graphic novels from the first series, there is a lot here, which can often leave fans intimidated or confused as to where to jump in, so hopefully this will provide some guidance.

Just like the Avatar: The Last Airbender graphic novels, there are multiple sets of stories, all broken into trilogies. As of right now, two full trilogies have been completed, with the final portion of the second trilogy having released in February. The first of the trilogies is titled Turf Wars and its follow up is titled Ruins of the Empire. Fans will be ecstatic to know that both of the original creators of the franchise, Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko, were heavily involved with the graphic novels, leading the creation of the stories themselves.

The Avatar: The Legend of Korra graphic novels are available now, and have even been collected into larger volumes that include the entirety of each trilogy to make reading that much easier. Happy reading.
