A parody poster for Avatar: The Way of Water replaces the new Na'vi character with an ogre from Shrek. Dreamworks' fairy tale satire starred Mike Myers (Shrek), Eddie Murphy (Donkey), Cameron Diaz (Fiona), and John Lithgow (Lord Farquad). Shrek was followed by three sequels, two spinoffs about Puss in Boots, several short films, and even a 4-D experience at Universal Studios. Shrek was well-received upon release and won an Academy Award in 2002 for Best Animated Feature.

Avatar was also incredibly successful back in 2009 and is currently still the highest-grossing movie of all time. James Cameron is finally releasing the follow-up, Avatar: The Way of Water, 13 years after its predecessor. Plot details about the sequel are mostly under wraps, although Avatar 2 has been hyped by Cameron and his crew for its mind-blowing special effects and underwater action sequences. Just recently, 20th Century Studios released the first trailer and poster for Avatar: The Way of Water, revealing the return of Jake Sully (Sam Worthington) and Neytiri (Zoe Saldaña), new creatures, and different Pandora environments.

The first poster for Avatar: The Way of Water introduced a new unnamed Na'vi character, and fans are already starting to joke about the movie. A new parody poster from messypandas humorously replaces the blue Na'vi character with an ogre from Shrek. Shrek is clearly still a part of pop culture even though the last movie in the main series came out in 2010. Dreamworks has been focused on other projects in recent years, but Puss in Boots: The Last Wish is coming out this year. It was also reported in 2016 that Shrek 5 was in the works; however, updates on this project have been scarce. Myers, Murphy, and Antonio Banderas are expected to return if Shrek 5 happens and there have been reports that the film could be a reboot rather than a direct continuation of Shrek: The Final Chapter.

While the future of Shrek is uncertain, Cameron has big plans for the Avatar franchise, with Avatar 3, 4, and 5 coming out in the years following Avatar: The Way of Water. Cameron's Avatar has garnered a lot of hate since 2009, but the recent trailer and poster make it clear that there is still a lot of interest in the world of Pandora and the Na'vi characters. The Avatar 2 trailer got 148.6 million views within 24 hours, which beat out anticipated sequels like Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker and The Incredibles 2. Regardless of fan perception of Avatar: The Way of Water, harmless parody posters like the one above should give fans and haters alike a good laugh.
