Avatar: The Way of Water's incredible underwater life takes center stage in a brand-new trailer teaser for the upcoming sequel. Directed once again by James Cameron, Avatar: The Way of Water marks the first return to Pandora in over 13 years. The film is set to continue the stories of Jake (Sam Worthington) and Neytiri (Zoe Saldañda) as they attempt to keep their family together following the emergence of a new threat. As was already made clear in the sequel's original trailer, Avatar: The Way of Water will trade the original film's dense jungle environment for a more ocean-based one.

Now, as the release date for Avatar: The Way of Water approaches, a new teaser shared by the official Avatar YouTube channel confirms that a final trailer for the film will be released tonight during Monday Night Football. The short teaser also shows off more gorgeous underwater footage from the film, which includes additional looks at Pandora's vast array of underwater life. Check out the teaser below:

How Avatar: The Way Of Water’s New Na’vi Tribe Will Reshape Pandora

Avatar 2 The Way of Water James Cameron Discusses Movie Length

While the original Avatar chronicled Jake's relationship with the jungle-dwelling Omaticaya Clan, Avatar: The Way of Water will introduce the Metkayina Clan. The Metkayina are water-dwelling Na'vi with slightly more green skin who enjoy a harmonious relationship with the oceans of Pandora and the life that resides within them. With the introduction of the Metkayina Clan, audiences will get to not only explore new regions of Pandora that weren't featured in the original Avatar, but also see the different dynamics between Na'vi tribes. It hasn't been entirely clear from the Avatar: The Way of Water trailers what customs and beliefs the Omaticaya and the Metikaya share and in what ways the two clans may be different.

The first Avatar was commended for its impressive world-building, with Pandora comprising a complex jungle ecosystem of flora and fauna. Avatar: The Way of Water is seemingly set to take this world-building to an entirely new level, with trailers not only teasing the sequel's improved visuals but also proving that what was seen in the first movie was really just a drop in the bucket when it comes to Pandora. With 3 more Avatar movies set to be released in the coming years (depending upon how well Avatar: The Way of Water performs), the Metkayina Clan and its ocean home could serve as a gateway to the environments and characters that will be explored in the sequels.

A number of questions remain about Avatar: The Way of Water and its many new characters, but there's evidently far more to Pandora than fans may have initially thought. Although the Metkayina Clan are sure to be different from the Omaticaya Clan in many ways, it's likely that they will still be deeply connected to Eywa, who is essentially the deity that keeps Pandora in perfect equilibrium. With a new trailer for Avatar: The Way of Water set to drop soon and the film's release date now not far away, fans don't have much longer to wait before they can experience the oceans of Pandora for themselves.
