A new Avatar 2 set photo offers a peek inside a human military aircraft, likely headed for Pandora. As the first sequel to the highest-grossing movie of all time, Avatar 2 has some high expectations attached to it. Director James Cameron has been hard at work devising the follow-up to his wildly successful 2009 sci-fi epic, which introduced audiences to the fantastical planet of Pandora. There are 4 additional Avatar movies planned, and they've been delayed numerous times as Cameron works to develop the necessary technology to capture the scope of his vision. As of right now, Avatar 2 is slated for release in December 2022.

With the premiere of Avatar 2 now nearly in audiences' sights, new details about the long-delayed movie have emerged. Producer Jon Landau recently shared some story details for Avatar 2, explaining the sequel will pick up with Jake Sully (Sam Worthington) and Neytiri (Zoe Saldana) years after the first film. They've since started their own family, but a renewed threat soon forces them to leave their home and flee to Pandora's underwater Na'vi clan, known as the Metkayina.

Though Avatar 2 will spend a considerable amount of time with the Na'vi, there's a human story at play too. A new behind the scenes image from Avatar 2 has arrived courtesy of EW, and it reveals the inside of a human-operated military aircraft that was seen in the first movie. The picture features both Cameron and franchise newcomer Edie Falco, who is dressed in military fatigues. According to EW's reporting, the craft belongs to RDA, the same organization that descended upon Pandora in the first film and wreaked havoc. Check out the image below.

The return of the dragon gunship indicates that Avatar 2 won't just show new sides of Pandora from the Na'vi's point of view. RDA's continued exploration of the planet doesn't exactly bode well for the natives; in fact, it seems to show the organization's reach is growing. It could be that RDA's return to Pandora is what sends Jake and Neytiri out of the rainforest. The above glimpse inside the aircraft shows the humans' technology remains as top of the line as ever, which could prove alarming to Avatar 2's heroes.

Hopefully, though, there will be more to Avatar 2 than just another conflict with the RDA. Cameron's focus on Pandora's oceans shows the sequels intend to dig deep into this planet, but hopefully there is a compelling story to back these exciting visuals. The humans remain a clear and present threat in Avatar 2, but perhaps they won't be the only one. Stay tuned for more updates.
